How to Propagate Madagascar Jasmine (Stephanotis) through Seeds

Hi guys!
As I promised last week, today it is high time to cut open my Madagascar Jasmine’s fruit (or Pod) and try to propagate this beautiful vine through seeds.
Please keep the fingers crossed for these seeds to germinate, hit that subscribe and bell button and you won’t miss any jasmine updates.
Speaking of updates, another exciting one regarding this very jasmine plant is coming up next week. The trellis balance is not good as the plant grew and grew and grew like in the folk tales, so it is time to readjust the vines and prune it. And I am going to show you exactly how I am doing this!

Hi … thank you for the wonderful information and I can understand your excitement. I noticed one week ago the seed pod on my Stephanotis. I couldn’t believe my eyes. So I will be patient because I’m hoping to take this to term and plant my seeds. I know lots of people who would love one and I’m looking forward to sharing. Hi Carol! Thanks for taking time and letting me know about your pod! :D It is, indeed, very exciting! And yes, you must be patient, up to 10-11 or even 12 months for the fruit to reach full maturity. I should have waited with mine until the 11th month, but still got germination. The plantlets are doing all right, but they have a slow growth. So more patience needed :).

What kind of potting soil did you use? The planting seeds part of the video didn’t show up on my video. How far apart/deep did you plant the seeds? You put 4 seeds in every spot? Thanks for sharing

Hi @Jannelle Nava. Thanks for the questions. The seeds were potted half a centimeter deep and approximately 2 centimeters (less than 1 inch) apart, or even less than that. I put dozens of seeds in the same pot.

How old was your stephanotis before it started to fruit? And what makes it fruit?

How old? I have no idea, I only jad it for 1 year, but I believe it had more than 3, maybe even 5, because the stem was thick. What makes it fruit indoors? Probably pure luck and a green fairy godmother :). Joke aside, she was placed next to a heater, a window and an open lid aquarium, so it must have been a perfect combo of light, warmth and humidity.

But you didn’t show us how to actually propagate the seeds, what medium to use, nor did you tell us how long it takes for it to sprout. Just noticed a seed pod I got from a friend opened after I left it for months.

Unfortunately I cannot edit it after the upload. The seeds were placed in a regular potting soil mix, enriched with some perlite and sand, watered properly and left on an eastern facing window (few hours of direct sunligh in the morning).
