Thanks Chris. I’ve bought Thundermax off you for all my bikes. Was worried about bleeding my 19 Road Glide Special since changing the ECM. This was just the vid I needed.

Note to viewers: Please ignore the ABS portion of this video. CycleSolutions certainly did.

And this kids, is why you can't always trust that independent shops know what they're doing. Crazy they pointed out the abs module and said that not properly flushing the system causes them to fail. Only to not flush the system properly.

Thanks for the video. I can't believe I paid 1 hour labor plus materials to have this done.

Is TC different then M8's in that you have to activate ABS module by way of digitech scanner or Going for a ride and purposely activating ABS?

First, let me say this is how I flush the brake fluid on my ABS equipped '14 Ultra Limited and I've never had any brake problems. However, and I'm not trying to start a debate, H-D service bulletin M1470 issued specifically for the ABS brake recall covering certain '08-'11 model bikes requires a procedure for activating the ABS/HCU module after flushing the brake fluid, which calls for using the Digital Technician II. This procedure is also required on all ABS equipped bikes manufactured subsequent to 2011, whether air is introduced into the system or not. There are a few aftermarket alternatives to activating the ABS that owners can purchase if they want to do the procedure themselves rather than taking the bike to the dealer. For the record, this topic has been hotly debated on many Harley-Davidson forums.

For the record, this video is for those who don't head to HD for everything. No debate necessary. There are ways of getting things done properly without being tethered to only a dealership.

For the record, the abs hcu has valves and accumulators. Unless the abs is exercised, old fluid remains in the hcu's valves and accumulators.

@@ridemfast7625 Boom! My thought exactly. My believe is that unless you exercise the ABS you in fact do have old fluid in the ABS components, minuscule as it may be. Also, stick to the factory DOT brake fluid, some may seem to have other advantages BUT, they are not reccomended for ABS as they can areate/foam when ABS is used.

@@RM-np1gm HD Platinum Dot 4 is very good. It is Low Viscosity and has the same exact specs, not a coincidence, as ATE SL.6. I use Bosch ESI6-32N 5.1.

@@ridemfast7625 Exactly and over time the old fluid will bugger the valves and will cost a lot more than an hours labour at the dealer once every two years. You can't educate PORK! 😂

So does this method push fluid through the abs module? I’ve read that you have to activate the module to completely flush the fluid.

No, this does not bleed the abs module, not sure why they even put "abs" in the title.

Cycle the solenoids by hitting brakes hard independent front, rear and then both to move fluid then bleed again

Seems to me that ABS has nothing to do with anything. Looks like you bleed the brakes the same way you would on a non-abs system. Did I get that right?

The shop manual says no because you risk the chance of inducing air into the system after removing fluid out the reservoir prior to bleeding and you’re aware if you get air in the system you are stuck taking it to the Stealership to be electronically bled.

I was thinking this wen he sucked all the brake fluid out the reservoir. I would imagine u could take out all the fluid right up until u get to the little inlet holes and fill from there.....am i wrong?
@opel1954
@opel1954 3 жыл бұрын
@@HorsepoweredRims I think you are correct, why emptying the reservoir and risk air into the system? Simply start bleeding and re feeling the reservoir, I think this method is safer.

This isnt bleeding the ABS module which is the most important part of a Harley (ie..expensive) ABS brake system and the reason the ABS module fails. You are best to bleed your breaks like in this video than go out with freshly bled brakes and go out to a big parking lot somewhere where you can do some hard stops to activate the ABS afew times and stir the fluid up in the module and then rebleed the brakes....or....spend the money for the dealer to do it or buy the scan tool. 😂

I know this is old but it is so wrong to call this "Proper". I would think this could lead to some liability issues. The Moco calls for a procedure thar purges the ABS module. Absent this it cannot be called proper. This procedure was instituted by the Moco after they lost some lawsuits on ABS failure. If the dealer cost to do this at 1 hour plus materials is too high for you, there are alternatives. There are devices available for consumer purchase that will cycle ABS. Some people advocate for change fluid, ride and activate ABS up to 10x then change fluid again. And some people advocate for just bleed system as you would non-ABS systems. Pick your poison.
