@@esprit15d , not all modern machines can be oiled by the owner, some are now closed systems and are only oiled by a service professional very infrequently. We do also sell both top-loading and side loading bobbin machines. For these reasons, we didn't include this information in our brief overview. We highly recommend referencing your instruction manual for oiling instructions, and also your local authorized Janome dealer.

I have a Janome and bobbin case just started squeaking. I gave it a good clean but it still squeaks and my manual says it doesn’t need oiling. I can’t afford to take it in at the time and I’m wondering if there’s something else I can do.

Whilst I really do think it’s great having some “how to” tutorials I think it would be better if you are able to do a better camera angle on the areas where you are pointing with the end of the brush. I can’t really see where you mean. I honestly do not mean this in any other way than constructively. Thank you for putting this together.

There are 2 other wicks in the top of your machine. Unscrew and search until you find both, one to the right of center near the main shaft and one tucked up in a gear area to the left of center. If it is white, yellow, and dry put at least 4 drops over the course of 5 minutes. Many machines are sold with dry upper wicks. We all know about the wick under the bobbin but I only found out about the upper wicks from a serviceman that came to do all my machines.

I recently purchased a Sewist 725s, after doing a good amount of research on mechanical machines. Wanted to stay away from the computerized machines, for me there is just way TOO much that can go wrong with them! My 725s is a workhorse, it's wonderful to sew with this machine. I've been looking for information about maintaining the machine and there's not much available. The owner's manual doesn't even include basic information such as the size of the bobbins! I am so surprised. Anyway, I'm glad I found this, I plan to look at the other vids and see what's there. Thanks for posting.

Yes. If you are fortunate to have a good service tech near by, take it in. I like to be able to do general maintenance myself because I use my machines everyday for hours. So in addition to the wick under the bobbin, there are 2 other wicks in the top of your machine.

There are also 2 wicks in the top of the machine that need to be oiled every 3 months if you use your machine regularly. These wicks are essential to the motor and shaft. Unscrew your top 2 screws (I have a 6600pro, 1600P, several 2350) and you will see a wick on the shaft to the right of center and a wick tucked up in a gear area on the left of center. If you do not see them, get a flashlight and look until you find them. Many machines are sold with dry wicks... so take a look, your machine will thank you.

Hello! We always strongly recommend our owners read their owners manual in reference to oiling - newer machines are a closed system and oiling can only be completed by a service tech, so this advice is not applicable to all machines.

@@JanomeJAI Owner's manuals should include all the wicks that need to be oiled by the owner or the technician; it should be an owner's decision. Simply identify all the necessary service and how to do it. Empower your owners to care for their machines. I own 6 Janome machines and only recently did a tech show me how to care for my own machines. Very doable. Why withhold this info from the manual?

Always refer to your Instruction manual - care is typically in the back of the book. Many of our new models do not need oiling by their owners since it is a sealed system inside. The machine is oiled during your annual or bi-annual service at your authorized Janome dealer.

I've had my Janome DC 3050 for over 2 yrs. I bought it at a rummage sale thinking it would be my back-up machine... OMGoodness! while sewing masks, it has become my 'go-to' machine. It handles the bulk of the pleats with NO bogging down, no hesitations of any kind!!! I'm now just finding out all of the functions and am THRILLED I got this work horse when I did. Just sorry it took me so long to begin using it. I came to this website because i was getting a squeak when sewing and decided it had to be time to clean and oil...the accessories box did come with a tube of the oil. I was able to 'assume' where to oil since I've done my own maintenance on other machines. But I agree, it was impossible to see where the oil was to be placed. Also, I've heard if the machine didn't come with oil, don't oil it. The squeak did go away and, it was LONG past due for cleaning!!!

I would think if I was supposed to oil it, it would say so in the manual. This just has to be wrong or the instruction manual needs to be rewritten. I can't believe something this important would be wrong.

@@kristenmahle5047 Janome does not want the consumer oiling the machines... Two reasons.. One is that they may use the wrong oil and grease. Secondly, they want to make money on the service fee.. Purchase the service manual on eBay if you can and only use "Tri-flow" oil and grease.. They do need to be cleaned, oiled and greased... They will wear out faster if not lubricated... Think of your automobile, would you not change the oil ??? The "self lubricating" claim is a joke, they simply do not want the consumer playing with the machine .. The oil Janome uses is a long lasting synthetic oil, but they need lubrication..

Someone’s personal appearance hasn’t a damn thing to do with it. This is mean-spirited, and highly inaccurate. You wear your hair however you damn well please. If people can’t see past your look to the value you are bringing, that’s their loss. (PS but the camera angle and lighting for the fiddly bits is an *actual* problem.
