All throughout my life I’ve always loved pickles. So much that I even drank the brine because it helped prevent cramps, and then because I just liked the taste believe it or not. As a semifarmer I was raised on pickles. Never had a martini but I very much look forward to the dirty martini!! Thanks John

Drinking pickle juice after a night of drinking Vastly helps you not get a hungover, or lessens the effects. Drinking in the morning after a night only helps you a little ;)

One last thing before i go back to my cave - get better ice. see all that white hue in your ice cubes? That's all trapped air, so only maybe, 40/50% of your cube is actual ice, solid cubes chill at a faster rate, dilute at a slower rate and give you more control over how diluted you want your drinks. they also help your drinks last longer after you've served them up to some guests. Easy home brew method for solid, crystal clear ice - get a plastic container (the size will depend on the size of your freezer space); insulate the sides & bottom of the container, leaving the top exposed. fill it up with water and stick it in the freezer; because the cold temperature is only coming from one direction, it'll push the trapped air in the water to the bottom of the container so once it's all froze, you can tip out the frozen ice block and carve off all the tapped/cracked ice from the bottom of the cube. the rest will be as clear as glass

Steve the Bartender is very good too. If you like an Australian accent, he's your guy. Very personable. People can be very particular about their cocktails. As a bartender, you have several options for how you make a drink-- the official (historical/traditional) way, the way the bar wants you to make it, the way you like it, the way a You Tuber makes it, and the way the customer wants it. I would master the basics and take it from there. Good luck! Regards from Indiana!

Never use water when chilling the glass, ice only. a Martini is always Gin. One olive, two at most! Shaking causes friction, which causes heat, which melts ice, defeating the purpose of drinking it "up". Nice, fun video! thanks.

This video is a great intro to Martinis. I've recently started enjoying and making them. Dirty, gin, shaken - best! I'm a big fan of Ryan Reynold's Aviation Gin, it's my go to gin for my home cocktail nights. In South Africa we are limited with vermouth selection unfortunately which reduces some of the variations we can play with.

@Ryan-cl6yr2 жыл бұрын
OW GOD 😂 chilling the glass here was spot on, you can tell the glass was as chilled as possible because of the frosting on the glass, this means the glass surface has reached equilibrium and wont get any colder. if you're making a stirred drink, you should stir until the mixing glass is frosted over too, that way you'll know it's as cold as it can get, so it's time to pour before diluting the flavours too much. fill the mixing glass 3/4 full of ice (remember, ice keeps ice cold) so you chill the liquid as much as possible without over diluting the drink (normal dilution amount for a stirred drink is usually 60-70ml). Lads, check out a book called liquid intelligence, its fascinating stuff.

Only one correction. The Gibson is named after General Gibson because he would not fight an opposing force unless he outnumbered them three to one. He also preferred pickled onions over olives in his Martini. Traditionally, a Gibson is stronger than a classic Martini because the contents consist of 3 parts gin and 1 parts dry vermouth. It's then garnished with an onion instead of an olive.
@SiliconBong Жыл бұрын
Thanks.
@colina13303 жыл бұрын
A lot of people scoff at vodka martinis, but I enjoy them from time to time. I think that, if you're gonna do a shaken martini, it's better to go with vodka, which is flavourless to begin with, so you're not losing those nice botanical flavours you'd get with gin. You're also never going to get a drink as cold with stirring as you are with shaking, so if you want to have your martini as cold as possible, shaken is the way to go.
@christinecamley2 жыл бұрын
Vodka should never be in a martini. I love a very dry martini made with a good quality juniper forward London dry gin, stirred, bracingly cold, and a lemon spritz and twist for a garnish. Spectacular!
