After seeing you use it, I purchased a second still specifically designed for electrical heating elements. Bought my SCR and element from Philbilly. I much prefer the electric option to the propane turkey fryer. Much easier to control the heat and nail down the temperature.

Good info big Phil, also never put a higher amp breaker unless you put bigger wire.

Useful video with good info. Most common outlet options are: 120v on a 15 amp breaker can run 1,800 watts max 120v on a 20 amp breaker can run 2,400 watts max 240v on a 30 amp breaker can run 7.200 watts max 240v on a 50 amp breaker can run 12,000 watts max

clarification.... 120v 20 amp breaker is 1800 watts max 120V 15 amp breaker is 1300 watts max. 220/240 120 volts x2 but it is still 1800 watts max per leg at 120v 30 amp is 3600 amps

Watts = volts times amps. 120v x 15amps = 1800 watts 120v x 20amps = 2400 watts 240v x 30amps = 7200 watts 240v x 50amps = 12000 watts

240V Elements operate at 1/4 the watts at 120V (Ohms Law). e.g. Get a 5400W 240V element will run at 1350W @120V for more flexibility with existing wiring. Also consider making an 'extension cord' to your clothes dryer (wire size is important).

That's exactly the issue that's kept me from going electric, shitty electrical system in my apartment which I'm not allowed to upgrade😒 But with my 100k BTU burner I get more than enough power to run whatever I want and being a low-pressure burner it's still controllable enough to make fine adjustments🤷♂ Once I get into my own property though I'm definitely dedicating some of my electrical system to going electric, running spirit runs on open flame makes me nervous sometimes😅 --RuneShine, Michigan's Norse-Druid Alchemist✌💚🙃

I have a 240 scr box I would let you have as long as it's put to a good cause. But I never hear back from you, so I don't have to worry about giving it to you.

Very good advice not to run it dry. Better to borrow the outlet your clothes dryer or electric stove's plugged into cuz 220 w/30A breaker'll support a 5500watt element. Get some suitable four conductor cable to run it to the garage without much voltage drop or overheating. And, get a secondhand spa panel w/GCFI breaker for $50 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppyxaGxvjdaBgNk ), and, even though it's more money, use an SSVR instead of an SCR (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ3GaWdjfqmXadE ). Hypothetically
