I always taste by holding your finger under your condenser and licking it off like when you eat hot wings because your buds don’t lie. If it taste like acetone then it’s not time to collect your heads. You will know when by the taste 😂 if your not sure then take a sample and light it on fire normally a bottle cap from a beer your drinkin. If it burns yellow it’s not ready and if it burns blue it’s ready to collect. Not blue and yellow but pure blue. Ethanol burns pure blue. Made over 500 gallons with this method and it has never let me down ✊

Good job on the video, I have a similar setup, with nice clear instructions. One recommendation I would make is that when you move from fermenting to distilling it would be best if you moved the thermometer from the lid to the vapor chamber (where the valve is just before the condenser). That would give you a more accurate reading of the vapor temp helping you keep the still running smooth.

Good moonshine doesn’t need filtered. Filtering also strips some of the flavor you want out of the grain. another question: in order to break up the cracked corn after it’s cooked and before adding the yeast, can I use one of those industrial-sized hand blenders to make a corn mush or puree?
@simonj485 жыл бұрын
Yes, and if you hook up a washing machine's drain outlet to a bucket, you can throw your mash in on spin dry to extract maximum liquid

kick your heat down to 80 get a higher concentration ethanol evaporates at 78c
@pd41655 жыл бұрын
That's at the head of the tub - it's cooling all the way up the tower before hitting the condenser. It still needs to be > 78C at that point. As long as you don't go too hot and start getting into the next band of distillates...

How do you kick it down? Dont you usually kick things up?

I made some using corn flakes. I went to a discount store and bought 8- 18 oz boxes for $1.35. When you stew it with the 2 pounds of malted barley it completely dissolves because it is already gelitenized.

If you open the very top valve on that oval part it will bleed off the methanol before you start making your liquor. Methanol starts to burn off at about a 145 degrees.

Shouldn't be hardly any methanol produced. Sugar washes produce zero

Phillip Main not true there will be a small amount for this set up.

@@timwegman5776 please explain where the methanol from this setup would come from
@phillipmain64755 жыл бұрын
"It turns out that the methanol is formed in an unrelated process-from the methyl ester (red circle) in pectin. Pectin is found in fruit, so when berries, etc. are used as the sugar source, methanol is formed. When molasses is used as the sugar source, methanol is not formed."
