5 min out of the water is an absolute maximum. I never run it this long unless I am dealing with a ski that’s been submerged and I’m trying to steam the rest of the water out of the crank case (after changing the oil first of course).incase anyone else is wondering the reason you don’t want to run Seadoos out of the water that long is because of the carbon seal at the drive shaft. Those are what keep water from entering the ski and what keeps them from burning up is lake water. There is no way to artificially cool them on a trailer. I’ve serviced countless skis and personally I almost never hook them to water to service. I’ll run them for 30’second intervals until the exhaust is warm to the touch. This is not recommended for everyone, you gotta know what you are doing cause the resonator is plastic and you can burn a hole in it fairly quick if you’re not careful. Still a good video boss. I like to pop around to see how other professionals do it from time to time. In this era of information it’s stupid not to incase some guy has some magic trick I never thought of. Anyways cheers.

One additional step when re-installing the plugs, it is a good idea to verify the sparkplug gap. While most gaps are close to where they are supposed to be, I have encountered several "pre-gapped" plugs that were incorrect.

Great video. I would add that some anti-seize should go on the threads of the plugs, and to re-grease the rubber on the coils to keep out moisture and water. But nice video, especially the oil change process and the constant reminder to always start the engine first before running the water, and stopping the water before killing the engine.

Big mistake right out of the gate. Do not run the ski on the hose for 5 mins. That will cause serious damage to the carbon seal. The manual states not to run it longer than 2 mins. The best way is to simply change the oil after a ride. The closed loop cooling system will keep the oil warm for several hours. You can only remove a little over half of the used oil. There really is very little to gain by the additional steps that you run through to get more oil out. There are two liters that you will never be able to suction. Just remember to change the oil more frequently than the manual states. I change the oil in my 300s every 25 hours or so.

Another little tip. When you are trying to extract more oil out the way I do it is through the oil filter reservoir. Remove the filter and stick your hose in there. That way you can leave your pump in and pumping while cranking the ski. You gotta keep a close eye so you don’t make a mess but if an idiot like me can do it anyone can. This tactic is especially important when servicing a recently submerged ski.

I don't mess with the every little bit of oil , I just change it every 50hours instead of 100hrs.. I change the filter every 100hrs. though. I change it after I get back from the lake, that way it's smoking hot oil, no need to warm it up . Another thing. They say to check oil at operating temp., well if you do that 30 second thing, and put it to the max level on the stick, you ride it for a few monutes, and get it up to operating temp, the stick will show about 3/8 on an inch higher, and you'll be well over full.

SeaDoo uses Carbon rings to seal the driveshaft and the owners manual say not to run it for more than 90 seconds when it is not in the water. Great video. Just 2 questions. 1, why run at 4,000rpm and then turned off ? 2, why can't the hose be turned on first before the ski ? Thankyou
@ryanwicksteed65062 жыл бұрын
Hey mate. The ski is run at 4000 rpm to flush out most of the water before shutting off the motor, I usually just turn off the hose and give it a short sharp rev, then pull out the key. Also the ski must be started before the hose because water goes into the exhaust pipe and the pressure from the engine running to force it out. if the engine is not running there is a risk that it could fill up with water. basically, the hose can't be on while the ski is off or you risk filling the motor with water.

I have a pair of GTI 130 SE skis, one is at 220 hours the other is at 180 hours. Both have been great, no repairs except for my carbon seal went bad (or was suspected to have gone bad) and was replaced under warranty. The key with Seadoos or jet skis in general is maintenance and don't leave them sitting for long periods. We ride ours year round, at least once a week in summer and once a month in winter to keep the fluids moving. I live in Texas so its not too cold here and we can get away with a winter ride on a warm day. If you're not going to ride them for the winter, winterize them.

All that water is for is cooling the exhaust. You run the water without the engine on, you'll fill it up into the motor like a bathtub. It's not like an outboard. Still not recommended to run outside of the water for more than a minute it's alot of stress on the carbon seal and your heat exchanger needs to be in the water to work as well.
