Average shelf life is : 5 yrs Top brands: Michelin / Cooper etc 7 - 8 yrs

Why is it okay to stack tires if they have rims mounted, but not okay to stack them if they don't have rims?

Depends on how heavy the tire is, but sometimes the bottom tire get squeeze down over time since they don't have a rim to support them if i remember correctly...
