Should always hook the distortion detector directly to the radio first and check your max volume before clipping then hook your amp back to your head unit(speakers disconnected) and turn your head unit to max volume without clip then hook the DD to the amp and turn the gain up until you get clip and then creep the gain down until clipping goes away then repeat on other amps. Edit: should also have the vehicle running so you're getting full voltage, with the vehicle off your battery is sitting around 12.5/13v and with the vehicle running your battery is around 14.5v. Not always going to cause issues but it's better to be safe.

He doesn’t have to check what the maximum volume from his head unit to his speaker wires since he’s running off amp’s you will check it through the RCA’s from the output source from the head unit. If he was running speakers directly off his head unit then yes you’d see this man check the output of the head unit form one of the speaker wires from the back of the head unit

I agree, he should have checked the rcas coming out of the head unit with the dd-1 instead of through the amp to figure out the head units distortion

@@LoudNLowAudio I own the DD1+ and if you’re not running an amplifier yes you’d check the speaker wires off the back off your head unit, but if you’re running an amplifier you can do it as he’s showing you or you can pop the RCA’s off the amplifier and plug the RCA into the DD1 and it will tell you the maximum undistorted volume of your output source of your head unit since none of your speakers are connected to your head unit that’s why he’s doing it this way

@@glidingisriding5523 you checked the headunit at the rca cables for clipping before you plug the rcas back into to amp. Then you turn the head unit to max volume without clipping and hook the dd to the amp and turn the gain up. I didn't say anything about speaker wires off the headunit. I've done over 500 systems and that's how you do it.

The voice amp is it a regular amp or is there specific amps for the voice ? Because I keep looking for one and regular amps pop up only I can’t find non so I’m not sure if a regular amp for like subs can work for the voice ?

All amps are regular amps but for the subs you usually use a monoblock (one channel) and for the speaker you use a 4 channel which specifically made to power speakers

Any full range amp can be used for subwoofers and for voice. Most amps made specifically for subwoofers will be monoblocks with a low pass filter that doesn’t let voice frequency’s pass through them. I’d recommend you just look for a 4-channel amplifier as they pretty much are all full range amplifiers

@@pighater951 Using ohms law and a multimeter is only accurate if the manufacturer of the amp is telling the truth about their rms ratings. I personally wouldn’t do it though with all the lies about amps rated power, it’s better to just use a cheap oscilloscope and actually see the sine wave. You can’t beat the ease of use and accuracy of the DD-1 though
