Here's a cool tip I learned: If you place your painted stone on a cheap, "spiky" plastic soap holder, you don't have to worry about it sticking to the paper underneath, and it allows airflow to dry the underside easily.

You will have to do one side then the other. I brush around the bottom quick to clean the bottom edge and then I place on a wire rack that is coated with rubber. Many people are using silicone mats to dry their stones too

Thank you very much for sharing 😊 I'm new to rock painting and I'm in the process of researching various things before I take the plunge. I had my misgivings about paint-on varnish since most people swear by spray-ons. However, this has convinced me to give it a go. Regarding the Liquitex itself, there's also one with a green label (which I think is called something like "gloss medium and varnish"). Do you know if this would work on stones at all, or do you only use the one with the orange label? Also, is the product safe to use indoors (with no mask required)? Thank you again - take care 😊
@MirandaPitrone3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to rock painting! I'm sure you're going to love it. I usually only use the one with the orange because it has UV protectant. I think they have one with a pink label too that I've used in the past and not had any issues with. As far as the green label is concerned I believe that their green label one is a medium and not a varnish. I might be wrong but I don't think it's meant to seal your piece. I would have to double check with liquid text on that
@MirandaPitrone3 жыл бұрын
As far as safety the MSDS sheets state there is no ventilation requirements, no mask requirements. The only suggestion they give is wearing goggles in case it splashes. I've never gotten that animated with my varnish So I have not worn goggles. I barely even noticed a smell when I use it. I've been using it indoors for years

Hi! Thanks for this video. You use normal acrylic paint on your stones? I've searching for some days now, bc I want to try to make a garden mosaic, but want to make the tiles myself. I was looking for a kind of paint that resist direct sunlight, but if you use acrylic and then just cover with that varnish, maybe I finally find my solution! Now I need to find a similar varnish here in Uruguay, and star to make my mosaic! A little question, the varnish can be used on a plastic surface? thanks!

This varnish is great for outside...I have not had any problems on stone. I am not sure how it will coat on plastic. It was patchy on glass when I tried it. I switched to multi-surface paints for the glass...the cure without a varnish. But on stone, canvas and wood...it has worked wonderfully :)

@MirandaPitrone6 жыл бұрын
I do not varnish the bottom of my stones, but that is personal preference. I have in the past...but I felt that I really wanted to leave part of the stone "natural" also I do not paint the backs of my stones..so I did not feel it was necessary to waste varnish. The top is touchable after 15 mins or so and Liquitex recommends 3 hrs for drying. But it is dry enough after 1/2 hr to set on the varnished side. I have never had an issue

Art Resin doesn't need ventilation. It's expensive but a amazing product. Hides flaws and brings out the colour. The finish is like glass. No yellowing. The only thing that's important is to cover it while it dries. Also it's self leveling. No brush require. You can even use your fingers with gloves on.

@@JazzyGems111 if you are doing rocks be careful not use to much and you should have a rotary tool to smooth the underside. Checkout Rachel Rocks Canada's channel.
