Thank you so much for this video!! I’m very new to mandala rock painting and I wondered what people use and how they seal their work so this tutorial was extremely helpful for me! You do beautiful work and I love that you don’t do the sped up versions. Your tips are very appreciated too!

Thank you so much for your feedback on this. I'm so glad you found me on here. I always struggle with the question of should I speed up or not speed up some of my videos. It seems that KZbin tends to show the ones that are sped up more for some reason. But I just keep on doing what I'm doing and helping those I can with the tricks and tips that I've learned along the way. I love painting and I hope that other people come to enjoy it as they find these videos. Thank you again for taking a minute to say hi and let me know your thoughts. I hope you have a fantastic day.

Great information and perfect timing for me to view this video. I'm sealing a series of painted rocks to resemble THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR🐛 along with a painted brick to resemble the book📚. This will be a gift for my sisters garden.

Thanks for your quick reply. I've been painting animals on rocks since 1996 & I painted rocks about the size of a tub of butter but I use a foam brush that is about 2 " wide. I only poured out what I thought I needed as I could always pour out a bit more. You do beautiful work & do what works for you. Also I subbed.

Your rocks are so pretty! I used a cookie cooling rack from dollar tree to dry my rocks on and if not careful it scrapes the back just a little. So I am now experimenting on coating the rack with a rubber like adhesive sealer used for plumbing. Husband does handy man work on the side so I'll dig into his stash...lol. Hopeful it'll do the trick. Thank you for the sealer recommendation and how to. Really appreciate it.

I airbrush my base coatings and any clear coatings I want to use. Yes, it requires a ventilated space and a mask so you're not breathing airborne paints, etc. However, the finish is perfect.

Hi Miranda, I drew this pix in pencil of a pet on a rock that passed away for some friends and I did spray it with a clear semi gloss, however, my friends want to put the stone in their yard and i know with the elements the drawing will be ruined… since I sprayed it, would i be able to use this Liquitex on the rock without ruining it?

Hi Miranda, your work is beautiful. I was wondering why you used such a large brush & why put the varnish on the brush instead of a lid of some kind so you could dab the brush in that to load it then use any extra in the lid to use on the rock????
@MirandaPitrone
@MirandaPitrone 6 жыл бұрын
Jan Smith thank you. I use a large brush so that I can cover the stone in less swipes because the more you work the varnish the tackier it becomes and it starts to get sticky and leave marks. I don't put it in a lid because then it has more exposure to the air and the same problem occurs it starts to get sticky and tackier. This is also why I tend to do multiple Stones all at the same time. Then I don't waste any of the varnish that's in the brush because I can use it on most the stones that I have waiting to get there clear coat. You can use a smaller brush for smaller stones. I just want to try to reduce the desire to paint it multiple times because that will ruin the varnish

It's not nearly as shiny as resin, but OH SO much easier to do and for me, has an adequate shine. I will also sometimes brush them with the matte finish for the UV protection that the Liquitex gives and them I spray with a high gloss, (which I'm never sure if they have UV protection).

I have used this varnish for years on canvas paintings. I dotted on a happy dotting man made stone a week ago, then vanished with this product. It stuck slightly to my drying rack and when I lifted it the entire painting basically peeled off like a decal. I was super sad. Yesterday, I finished a real stone and another man made stone. I varnished them today and after 10 hours of drying the real stone is dry and the man made stone still feels tacky on the dots that have top dots or a lot of paint. Do you think the using of a natural brush versus the sponge brush could be the difference? Love your work and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me.
@MirandaPitrone
@MirandaPitrone 3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure. According to Liquitex it might be the humidity where you are....in your drying area? I have never had that happen. Also The recommendation Liquitex. Ensure the artwork is fully dry before varnishing and allow at least 12 hours drying between coats of varnish. I usually wait 24hrs to be sure

karen palm I am not sure why that might have happened. Maybe the paint was not 100% dry before sealing it or sometimes overworking it can be an issue.ie..brushing it too many times. May be tested on another stone with the same paints. Just do some dots of different kind of paints and things you want to try to Varnish over to see how it reacts with it.

@MirandaPitrone
@MirandaPitrone 6 жыл бұрын
karen palm this is from Liquitex: Hello, Thank you for your interest in Liquitex. Please excuse me for not using your given name. Unfortunately, our system only records email addresses. It sounds like the artist didn't give their acrylic painting enough time to dry completely or "cure". Even acrylic paintings need to be dry all the way through before varnishing. We suggest waiting at least 72 hours and up to a week, depending on how thick the layers are or what the ambient temperature and humidity is. You can always check if you aren't sure, by moistening a clean, lint free cloth with water and gently rubbing different areas of the painting. If any color comes off, you'll know the painting isn't totally dry and to give it some more time before varnishing. Best, Ann McCarthy ......................... I usually wait 24hrs..but they say 72 hrs
