How to Prune Cucumbers & Identify Suckers

Today, I'll show you how I'm pruning my Diva cucumbers, growing on my lower and lean trellis. They are all being trained to a single leader which means we must remove all the suckers. I'll show you how to identify the suckers and which sun leaves to prune to keep the plant healthy. Other cucumbers tips in their as well :)

Excellent explanation! Had 6 overgrown cukes, stopped vid and immediately went outside to prune suckers and secondary stems. Had a big pile of stems with little cukes. Great for lunch and all the leaves and vines stoke my next compost. So inspiring to see such a young man with boundless knowledge AND willing to share!

I’m 100 miles south of Orlando, Fla. and attempting to grow cucumbers. Your videos are a great help. I grew them every year in N.Y. But down here might be a little more challenging because of the heat. So far I only have seedlings. In a few more days I will be putting them into the 4” pots. I'm starting to do more research so I have some tools and tips to be successful instead of wasting time and money. You were super informative!!! Pruning seems to be very important for growing successful plants and thought I was doing it right but was not doing a very good job. I just had a bad run with my tomatoes that I put sooo much time into and after moving my plants, they were attacked by a crazy huge caterpillar that snuck up on me!!! So I am not giving up! I'm in a fixed place that I can re-focus and will be looking through more of your videos! I'm actually writing stuff down like I'm sitting in a class, you make it easy to understand!!! Thank you!

I followed this process and it has helped produce dozens, if not hundreds of healthy cucumbers.This is my first year gardening and I planted waaaaay to many cucumber plants for my single household. However, it's keeping me busy during the Covid19 nightmare. I'm in Michigan and have already canned/pickled 20+quart size jars. Over the next 30 days I could possibly can another 100 jars lol.
