The Azores Dark with the extra long branch looks good for making an air layer.

Another great video. Thanks. No editing necessary. The sun was not a problem. The white door was a good background.

Good video. I will be pruning my trees this year. I basically have let them all grow single stem straight up and will prune to 30". Loved seeing your thought process and attention to detail.

Never place tags directly on the trunk unless it allows for half a foot of growth. If you pass away it's possible nobody will check if the tree is getting choked.

Damn… pass away… but good point. I stopped strapping them on

Ok, so if I am understanding from the 1st tree you pruned, when a dominant branch grows from a lower bud, you prune the original growth back to allow the new growth? That's how you get that nice thick main leader?
@basementfigs Жыл бұрын
Correct. The problem with the original growth is that it will never be thick, or take several years to put on girth. That original growth has spent its early years trying to “survive.” The node spacing prolly sucks too. Once the fig is happy and starts growing a healthy branch, I cut off the remaining “original” growth. Putting it in a big pot also helps. You can also root prune it back and put it in a smaller container after growing it out a season in the big pot.
