I pruned my Dorothy Gordon and Robyn Gordon today. I was so sad cutting off all the flowers but they will come back bigger and better soon.

Word of warning some native plants like Ozothamnus are not so gung-ho about hard pruning. They are reticent to retune or shoot from hard wood. This means you need to prune-train early in the plants life to keep the woody stems low and the productive new stems coming. These new stems can be cut off for flower arranging with a good length this way. it's not the longest lived plant but prune training certainly extends their life. So formative pruning is essential or the hard wood becomes too tall and you cant get into it with your clippers because it wont reshoot and produce all those flowers but die instead. If you've kept Rosemary (not a native) which coincidentally looks a lot like an Ozothamnus plant you will know how to do this as they are prone to dying completely with hard pruning down into old hard wood but otherwise will go on for some years with regular shearing into relatively new growth. Prune into new green wood, everything bellow that becomes hard wood, or the plants frame. Taking about a third off eventually, possibly more when the plant is still young to set the frame.

Yes, great timing. I've got a philotheca bush that the bees have now vacated following the beautiful flowers has finished and the resident blackbird has moved out. I've also got a rock rose that needs pruning back. It, too, appears to have green shoots further down the branches. Would it be ok to prune back the same way as the philotheca?

I have a tree sized NSW Christmas bush in my front yard. Alot of branches aren't sporting new growth, I have taken some big ones that were a danger to kids eyes off, but the dead branches up the top, would the plant benefit of I lopped them? I'm really struggling to find info on the NSW Christmas bush in general, hoping someone here can help lol
