How to prune tomato plants and why you should consider keeping your "suckers"

Did you know that suckers eventually produce more tomatoes? While you don’t want to completely neglect your tomato plant, keeping some suckers can be beneficial. More branches = more tomatoes! I like to maintain a balance of clipping and keeping suckers. Here are a few tips I follow to keep my plants blight free but also to maximize my yield.
Prune early in the season to keep your plant healthy and manageable
Prune “suckers” higher up on the plant
Pinch early flower buds when plant is smaller than 18 inches
Keep lower “suckers” but prune the leaf branches below them
Prune low lying branches
