Fellow Alabamian here. I don’t prune suckers either. Tried it one year and my yields were greatly reduced. Keep your suckers!😁

Same thing happened here to us so we keep all suckers. Welcome!

I have decided to back off on the pruning of suckers too. The theory is that they’d take energy from the main plant and that your overall size of the tomatoes would be larger if the suckers were pruned. My thoughts are: 1) I don’t feel the energy is being “saved” for the main plant because right after I cut the sucker the plant grows it right back and it’s bigger than ever, lol. And 2) I’d rather have 10 decent sized medium tomatoes than 3 big ones any day of the week. My harvests seem to plummet when I aggressively prune. This year I’m doing like you and trimming bottom leaves and anything that looks diseased. We’ll see how it goes. Great video.👍

I also agree about the suckers. Rather than a penny I like to feed my plants root beer. Last year I started dumping old flat root beer on my flowers and a tomato.they grew strong and healthy.

Thanks for the tip! I’m going to check into the root beer.
