Exactly I believe like many other cars. It was a great idea and could have been perfected. Oldsmobile designed and built the whole FWD setup. Then GM said good job green light. But you have to use body lines from the buick. Overshadowing how cool and different it was being FWD. Instead of its own design and the second they broke free of that ... Bam eldorado If oldsmobile would have been allowed to stand by themselves they could have been much more loved and remembered for the innovation they created with this one. Oldsmobile took back seat to alot of stuff they should have been in front of

My grandfather was the "Oldsmobile man." He went up the GM line, although he skipped Chevy. He bought a '67 Pontiac Catalina brand new, with the 389 4bbl. My father remembers him doing donuts in the parking lot with it. He traded up to a new '70 Cadillac Sedan Deville, than later bought a '72 Olds Cutlass Supreme, this time in addition to the Caddy, to be his daily driver, as he wanted something that had more sporty handling. The Cutlass was green with a black vinyl top and black bucket interior. 350 rocket under the hood. From then on he bought Oldsmobiles, 98's and such. Back when a 350 V8, meant that Olds, Pontiac, Chevy, and Buick all had their own engine. Wasn't streamlined by one brand like it is now. That was a great era for GM, it gave the company some uniqueness. Well, except for the oldsmobile 350 diesel. But we won't talk about that.

Back in the 60's to mid 70's Olds, Chevy, Pontiac and Buick have their own engineers and designers. They are competing each other because some of their model trim level overlaps each other. Oldsmobile's Cutlass Supreme was a best selling car because it was cheaper than buying a Chevelle and ordering the options to match the Cutlass Supremes' standard features.
@VitoVeccia
@VitoVeccia Жыл бұрын
@@diegosilang4823 A friend of mine used to be a Pontiac fanatic back when he was alive. He told me of an article that he read, where Pontiac designed the lifter for the Chevy 350, but never gave out the specs to Chevy. This is why the 350 and 4.3 required manual lash adjustment, despite having HLA lifters. Well, chevy got mad, and never gave out the alignment specs for the Polaris ( hence why the first model year, it stated " see corvair "). And then GM, didn't want the smallest engine of one car line, to be bigger than the biggest engine from another car line. So, with the stroke of a pen, the 336 became the 326. And if you do the math, the Pontiac 350 is actually 354 cubic inches. So yeah, I see what you mean when it comes to the competition aspect of things.

Don’t knock that diesel to much, ask the dirt trackers which motor they like, the diesel block from Olds is what a lot of them like, they’re like hen’s teeth to find now, they bought them all up. This particular car didn’t have a 350, they came with a 330, and it had a forged crank, could be made to run pretty good. 350 Olds didn’t debut till 1968.

My dad bought a new 67 Cutlass, his first brand new car ever. He had it about 6 months when there was a horrific pile-up on the Jersey Turnpike. a drunk guy in a Corvette took out several cars at a high rate of speed. In avoiding the mess, my dad turned hard and smacked hard into the huge, thick wooden center divider and crushed that beautiful, light green metallic Cutlass up to the windshield. My sister and I were in the back seat, she was 12, I was 6. I ended up with a few stitches under my left eye, but dad's face was a mess! he had several areas on his faces that needed stitches. The one on his left eyebrow was a reminder the rest of his life. After settling with the insurance company he bought a brand new 68 Cutlass! light metallic green! that 67 saved our lives. Unfortunately the Corvette driver and one other motorist did not survive the ordeal. That 68 became my first car my Sophomore year of high school.

Fun fact: Whether 2-dr. sedan (shown) or 2-dr. hardtop, both had same roofline. Always Iiked those buttressed C-pillars ..... which were shared with Chevelle, Special & Tempest. 😎

My first car was a hand me down from my grandfather to my mother then to me, it was a 2 door 86 Olds Cutlass Supreme V8 w/ the better rear gears.... It was a beast and would still spin both wheels but it was a Goddamn boat, it took me a few months to figure out where all my corners were and I had to relearn parallel parking over the year. I have fond memories of driving that car to the local spots w/ friends and we'd lay on the hood and stare at the stars because it was the size of a queen mattress..... The trunk was almost as big and could hold 6 people sneaking in to a drive-in or 16 cases of beer and about 6 gallons of liquor, but my favorite part was probably the back seat because it was a couch sized seats front AND back. I must have had 15 "camping" excursions in that thing w/ ex girlfriends, I have a lot of great memories w/ that car.... I don't recommend it now, maybe a newer van w/ the fold flat seats would be better but for me it was the best thing ever. 😂

I bought a 67 442, 4 on the floor with a 400 cubic inch in 1977 for a hefty price of $900. In 1978 our state was shut down due to blizzard that dumped @ 30” of snow. Work was shut down that day, so me and a guy I worked with and my sister and her husband all decided to go skiing in the next state. So we piled all our equipment ( 4 pairs of skis chris crossed) boots, jackets and whatever else we were taking in the trunk and went on our way. No snow tires lol, just 60 series tires on back and 70ies on front! That beautiful car was my primary car for 9 years with some improvements over the years. I actually was driving it when they announced that Elvis had died 😢 When I decided to sell it, I was lucky to find a guy in state that was a classic car collector. I sold it for $3,000! Almost can say that I drove it for free all those years 😊

Bought a 67 Cutlass Convertible with the small V8 and a 4 speed. Was one of the cars I wish I could find again. Another car I loved was the 61 Pontiac 2 Dr hardtop. It's lines were classic specially if you had the big V8 and 4 spd.

My old man had a 67 442. He would make bets that people couldn't keep their hand on the dash. It also stood up and did a wheely taking off.

The first car I ever looked at was about a early 90s cutlass supreme in some kind of teal, or light blue, kinda sparkly like the tops of old drive in diner tables. The interior was beautiful, and pristine, I couldn’t get it, but the car I did get just got rear ended, and I’ve been looking at classics a lot, maybe this is my sign that Oldsmobile I saw is the right choice :)

I grew up with Cutlasses, my dad still has an 81 Cutlass Supreme. I always thought they would be more expensive cause they were the coolest muscle cars to me, largely because of most people gravitating towards the staples Of all the muscle cars an Oldsmobile would be the most amazing one I could get
