I watched your video to see how you managed to hold the cloth over the exhaust and reach the throttle arm at the same time. You obviously have a shorter quad than my TRX420 so you could multi task, I however could not. Used a broom handle to depress the throttle whilst holding the cloth in place. Thanks for your video all the same. Great condition your quad in to by the way, well done. Susie

Yes, I demonstrated how to do this procedure on my Recon 250, but I also own a TRX420 Rancher and I know exactly what you mean about reaching the throttle while blocking exhaust pipe with the rag. I typically ask a family member or friend to either hold the rag over the exhaust or rev the throttle. Sounds like you came up with a good way to reach the throttle with a broom handle. Thanks for the nice compliment and for watching!

I have a 91 300 fourtrax.. there's only 2 bolts on the bottom and it holds a bracket in place, but once I take it off, there's no nothing losse to take off.. not even sure, if it has one, but I'm sure, it's supposed to have one.. I still purged it though.

Should I try and remove the soot/carbon that has actually built up in the actual exhaust. If so how do I achieve this?
@Palomino4883 жыл бұрын
I typically just use compressed air and blow out the opening of the exhaust seems to work well when needed. The only other idea I can think of off top of my head and I should mention I’ve not personally done this on my atvs but did it once on a tractor muffler to clean it out. Remove muffler and soak/submerge the muffler in a bucket or pan of low flash point solvent like kerosene to remove heavy soot and carbon buildup. Keep moving it around in solvent until muffler stops having soot or carbon come out from the inside. Let the muffler dry out a while before reinstalling on the machine. I would only do the solvent method if you really felt like the muffler was clogged up and it was restricting engine performance, otherwise just blow into the exhaust openings with compressed air. Hope that helps.

How often should u do that
@Palomino4886 жыл бұрын
Honestly, as frequent as you like will certainly not be harmful to it. It all depends on how much you ride. If you ride a lot then service it more frequently. I would say once a month or every two months is a good service interval if you ride a lot. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

Do u have to use the grease
@Palomino4884 жыл бұрын
No. That is just something I do to keep the threads lubricated on that spark arrestor plug so it’s easier to remove the next time I take it out.

I wonder what my honda exhaust looks like after I do this, hasn't been cleaned in 25 years!
@Palomino4884 жыл бұрын
Probably has a lot of carbon/soot buildup would be my guess. Thanks for watching!
