Thanks for pointing out the direction of chain. Other videos about that seemed to take it for granted that a first time user would already know that.

This is the first and only chainsaw I have used. I feel like I might have been spoiled by the super easy, and super quick chain tightening and replacement system.

Thank you so much! That is the exact model I have and you made it look so easy. I love my Stihl in fact I have two of the exact models. Two is one, one is none. If one is down, I have a spare. I am 75 and cut my own wood.

A trick I just learned today is to put a zip tie around the chain and bar after making it tight on the front, top, and bottom to keep things together. Then put the chain on the sprocket and sprocket cover back on.

That’s how I keep my clean and sharpen chains on the bar and switch it all out

Nice video, BUT just saying the sharp part of the tooth is meaningless to first-timers. You should zoom in on the tooth and show the sharp part of the tooth has a point. That point is the first contact of the cutting edge. The non-cutting side of the tooth has a right angle straight side. Thx!

Both edges of the chain look like they could cut. But the correct cutting edge will be higher than the other. The chain rotates the way it does so that, if it breaks, it won't fly up into your face.

I’ve seen some very dangerous people with chain saws and they don’t have a clue what they’re doing, stay away or just leave that area 😊

Better to just put bar on saw and then put chain on, hold bar up while tightening
@robertstellato5172 Жыл бұрын
I have an MS181 CB-E easy start - I took the bar off to clean it and was surprised to see a wheel attached to the bar - it's held by a small bolt to the bar but is movable or rather swings up and down - because of this swing action, I'm having a hard time putting the cover on - what am I doing wrong?
@robertbrandywine Жыл бұрын
I believe that wheel is the tensioner. You can turn it with the sprocket cover on or off. When it's off you rotate that wheel clockwise to loosen the tension: Check out this video starting at 6:44. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqvFqod3mLuFbrM

Shouldn’t you start it with the brake stop on/ forward ( for safety?) then……. Release brake and warm up on idle

You can but I have experience, should be fine lol

@@GettingItDoneRepairs Okay, whilst you may have the experience, there may be a few newcomers to chainsaw handling. I would therefore recommend “ brake on”
@kokopeds8588 Жыл бұрын
brake on or off when starting ?
@GettingItDoneRepairs Жыл бұрын
Some people say brake on for safety reasons of course. I have lots of experience with chainsaws and I'm very cautious. I don't normally use the brake. Do what you feel comfortable with

You never showed a close up of the teeth. Yet you say the most important thing was getting the chain in the right direction.so..how does that look?? Would it have been too hard to bring the bar close to the camera lens?? Frustrating and dangerous video.
