My Polo 1.6 FSi Sport engine bay is like an oven, after looking into videos like this I have realised how restrictive using this type of filter would be, the position can only draw in 90°c air! Engines want cold air, hence the normal intake sucking in fresh air through the front grill, thank you for the video 👍 it helped me realise to NOT get one. If a kit has extended pipes it may get closer to the fresh air, but filters are there for a reason, they filter dust out of the cold air, and many of these kits boost BHP whist letting in fine dust to your engine, again, not a good thing!

Does this mod make the engine management light come on since you are changing the airflow?

No it doesn't in my experience. I've installed come filters in many of my previous cars including Golf 3 GTi, Golf 4 GTi, Audi TT, etc. Although these 'freeflow' filters let in a bit more air, it's s negligible performance increase but sounds a lot more aggressive. The original airboxes are designed to dampen the sounds of the intake valves sucking in air by using trumpet kind of structures inside. If you have a Polo like the one in this video and considering a cone filter but still have the original airbox, then you should remove the airbox base from the car and remove the plastic trumpet completely. It'll immediately improve your cars response a little and slightly noticeable with the sound, not loud like the cone. 😎👍🏼

I understand you don't want to be putting hot air from the crankcase into the cold air coz it kinda defeats the point but surely your loosing vacuum pressure with just a filter? I'm thinking maybe an oil catch can to grab the c**p and a water cooled pc rad as a kinda intercooler for the crankcase breather ?????? Or am I too high n thinking too much ??????

ian thompson not even worth it. Leave everything as is, sell the car and buy one with a turbo. Turbo cars gain more power with less effort

ExCessive07 Hi there The cone filter starts from R90 in most car shops. The Part that goes into to breather was R50. clamps were R10 each.

I dont know the size of it, i just measured the diameter of the breather and went by that.The breather is soft rubber so it does stretch a little. I would think its important and was advised to do that by a speed shop.
