good way to add weight to a typical head heavy & lighter weight racquet to balance it out
@cjosephmandolin6341 Жыл бұрын
Just curious, how much lead would you need to add to the hoop in order, to retain the original balance after adding the leather grip? Obviously, this would vary depending on where you add the weight -- 12 o'clock, 3 & 9, etc... Thanks!
@anttitapio41458 ай бұрын
At 12 o'clock: 4 inches (2,8 g) of lead tape changes balance about 1 point. At 3 and 9: effect is about half of what it is at 12 0'clock. To change 1 cm ~ 3 points you need 12 inches at 12 0'clock or 24 inches to 3 and 9 to have original balance.

Weight considerations aside, I played decades where leather grips were the only viable grip option (maybe excluding cheesecloth). This included high end grips like Fairway. I find the artificial grips to be so much better in feel and performance. I tried a leather grip a few years back (Fairway) and found it disappointing after a few sets.

What thickness and weight is your leather grip? And what brand?
@enematwatson1357 Жыл бұрын
1:25 The TW private label leather grip comes in 1.5 and 1.3 mm thickness. The Head Hydrosorb Pro is just under 1.8 mm. => Both options will reduce your grip size by about half a size to one full size.

My factory-installed leather grip wore out. I removed it and will install a TW leather grip (same as in video). I noticed there are staples in the grip, so apparently staples were used by the factory to install the leather grip. But I can just go ahead and install the TW leather grip without stapling, correct?
@landonh3535 Жыл бұрын
Yep, you can get an Oehms Pro Leather grip in 1.7 which will keep the grip size the same. I believe Head uses those in their pro room, just rebranded.

It is amazing that SW is the same. But since it will be more stable from the base line and heavier on the serve what does the SW mean?...
@briandmello1981 Жыл бұрын
Did you get an underspec ET? You mentioned having lead on the sides at 3 and 9. Just surprised that the SW is only 317.
@simmstennis Жыл бұрын
Yes, I did get an under spec one. I find that rackets are under spec more often than over which makes sense from a manufacturer’s standpoint because under spec can be remedied more easily.

Literally about to do the same thing to my vcore pro 97L. Was seeing if I could make small mods on the 97L to play but looks like I will end up with the 310 specs after this. There's a lot of debate on whether a leather grip and overgrip would add swingweight. Some said zero and some said 1-2 pts increase. This confirms it all.

That wasn't what I was expecting. I thought the swing weight would have gone down. Then what is the effect on the feel of the racket on the swing? Does it feel faster through the air? Does it feel more stable upon collision with the ball?
@simmstennis Жыл бұрын
It depends on what type of swing. On forehands, backhands and serves where you’re generating plenty of head speed the impact is minimal. If you are blocking the ball more like with a volley or some returns of serve it helps with stability. To me it does not feel faster through the air although some say it has a more maneuverable feel.
@chuckfriebe843 Жыл бұрын
Adding weight at the bottom never affects the inertia of the racquet.
@chuckfriebe843 Жыл бұрын
The leather grip WILL provide recoil weight. Which means that the impact of the ball on the strings affects the movement of the handle less because of the added weight near the bottom. In other words, slightly more stability.

@Rui Dias correct
@aj520605 Жыл бұрын
For me it makes the racquet more stable from the base line, especially on the blocking shots. But it also slowes down moving the racquet through the air which always denies this approach for me. It is a question of a proper racquet's choice. All the producers made a crap before 2020, but now some good enough racquet's are available
@tomr1056 Жыл бұрын
You can't play with just a leather grip though! As soon as your hand gets at all sweaty the grip will be slippy! pros that use a leather grip tend to put a thin over grip over it.

True, I also use an overgrip no matter what type of base grip is beneath.
