A few tips I’ve learned putting on covers: 1. Start trimming your cat’s nails as early as possible. I started mine shortly after I got him at about 4 months old and now at 7 months he pretty much lets me trim no problem. He fusses even less with the caps for some reason. 2. Fill all 10 at one time. Keep track which cap you filled first so you can apply in order. The reason is twofold. A. The glue has had a moment to get tacky and will adhere to the nail more quickly. B. It’s better to just get them all on, boom boom boom. If you have to take the time between each nail it gives kitty time to run off. Plus, you’re allowing the first nails to adhere longer without the possibility of kitty messing with them. 3. The brand I use says to only fill the cap 1/3 full which I don’t think she said. It gets messy and in the fur if it’s filled too full. Good luck!!! ❤️❤️❤️

This was helpful! Thank you. I just got 2 Persians that are 8 weeks and I am getting ready to trim their nails. When did you first use caps on yours? I am not sure if I should just make it part of the trimming routine to help them get used to them and get used to not pawing me and the furniture or if I should wait for it to potentially be a problem and then start with the caps. Thank you again!

@criscobabe91343 жыл бұрын
@@christianwilliams8967 There's a lot of reasons why they're covered. Cats claw on furniture, even when they have posts and trees to scratch, they will still do it. Cats also carry a disease in their claws and teeth so if you get scratched/bit you can get an infection. It has nothing to do with laziness and is completely harmless.

I have a cat who has trouble retracting her claws - so she gets stuck to things. Stuck to pillows which fall off the couch with her still attached. Stuck to the back of the couch. Stuck to the washing basket in a really bad pretzel shape and limping for a few days afterwards... she was injuring herself and we were trimming and it still would happen.. even the vet was worried that declawing her might be safer (the vet was horrified to even suggest it, but the cat could've killed herself so the vet was also a bit at a loss..) Thankfully i found these online that day after the vet, and it had a simple diagram how to do it. My cat hates being petted, hates being held, but allows me enough time to trim her nails, and enough time to put all the nail caps on her. She just sits in my lap, waiting for her manicure to be done. Showed the vet who was so happy to find out there was another solution..

I've been seriously considering trying these for the exact same reason. My G-maw has dementia and lives with me because she can no longer live alone. Because of her age and such she has paper thin and super soft skin (rotten old skin as she calls it lol), plus she takes a blood thinner. She of course loves our cat, but when Luna is being playful she often accidentally scratches her quite a bit. Since declawing is absolutely out of the question and should be illegal IMCO and just simply cutting Luna's claws doesn't last long enough this looks like it might be the best option.

Tech-talk aside,,, This is a beautiful and wonderfully patient kitty!!! She reminds me of a charcoal-Russian Blue cat that I was a companion with, from being a very very small kitten, till she developed renal failure and had to be put to sleep. In a certain light, her fur was iridescent and looked magical!!! While taking your pet to a groomer is great for the groomer during most occasions, learning how to do these things personally is something all pet owners should learn to develop and maintain. It would be nice for Lovely Paws to list and name the type of nail trimmers and nail caps used in the video as product suggestions or something viewers can use as a reference when comparing other similar products. Also, during the video, it would have been nice if the presenter addressed the different sizes and particular methods of using them when other sizes won't fit. I'm not trying to be overly critical, but these suggestions could help make a 'great' video and 'excellent' video!!! Please make a video discussing at what 'age' or 'size' a kitten must be before applying nail caps!!! And, if you have a very small kitten available, do a practical demonstration and application video!!!

But I looked at the nail cap to see what length (plus chose a size too to fit). It’s NOT fun to experience with your cat, but to save furniture, carpets, etc. Even if they fall off, I’m keeping at it! (Women know a bad nail set! So I was thinking to use alcohol to help the glue.) I’ll comment back here in 2 weeks! Kitty Caps is what I used by Whisker City.

If you get into trouble with your cats scratching, you can do many things to help with this. So furniture, cats scratch furniture for two main reasons, scent marking and to help their nails shed. Having many cat scratching posts right by the couch on each end, where the cat scratches helps. I also found adding their scent to the couch helps a great deal. So get a well used blanket/towel etc by the cat and rub it around where the cat is scratching. Don't worry it's not a smell you will notice, I'm not talking about making it stink like cat piss or anything. Lots of positive reinforcement with the cat. If your cat doesn't know how to use the post, you just need to use it yourself and start scratching. May take time, so patience is crucial. Making sure the cat is comfortable in the house as well. Sometimes it can be a cat acting out because they feel insecure in their space in the house. Essentially cats need to feel like they have places in all rooms, even if it's just a blanket they like or a cat post. You don't have to go crazy, but just be considerate of the cat and make sure high activity areas have a away for the cat to move around without engaging with the chaos. Trimming their nails is another one. If it's scratching people that's the problem, then it's different. Never play with your cat with your body, that is just teaching your cat, that your body is okay to claw and attack. Otherwise it may be a problem with the cat feeling insecure about the house, or even you over stimulating the cat and not paying attention the their body signals to stop. Serious boredom to. There's also medical reason, or a cat that's feral etc. Though if all else fails speaking with a vet about these caps may be your answer. Just please never declaw a cat for scratching furniture or kill them. There are options if you put in the effort and are willing to care properly for the cat. Seen too many cats being killed for doing something that is healthy and natural. It sounds like you were looking for other solutions as it is, so thank you for researching to help you and your cat.

And a little side note I’ve only declawed my cats nails once and never done it again, her nails are also nice and healthy :)

what about when they retract their claws?? doesn’t it jam????
@melaninmonroe18333 жыл бұрын
One of my cats claw at my dining chair legs since she was a kitten. I have to stop debating & apply them already (I purchased the claw caps some time ago). I recently got a removable screen door & it already has one tear in it, that needs patching from the 2 cats clawing at the screen doo, wanting to go outside. It's definitely a better option than having your cat declawed. This will save my chair legs from further abuse and save my screen door altogether. 👍🏾

My kitty is seriously more like a dog than a cat. He loves to chew, play fetch, even going for walks on a leash. Oh and let's not forget the never ending battle with him dragging the floor mats out of my bathroom! My concern with these nail caps is that once I get them on him, he will chew them right off. Has anyone else had this problem with their kitty? The other thing I'm concerned with is he is NOT a patient kitty whatsoever. It takes me FOREVER just to fight with him to clip his claws? Any suggestions besides taking him to his vet or a groomer to have this done? Thank you.

I have a recent rescue who won’t let me hold or restrain her yet. I haven’t tried putting on the caps yet but for trimming her nails it makes a huge difference if I wait to do it until she’s sleepy. I wait until she’s asleep somewhere her paws are easily accessible (ie on the couch not under the bed), and do a few nails as she’s waking up. I stop as soon as she gets too agitated and finish up another time. If I try to clip them when she’s active or playful, or if I try to do all of them at the same time, she just yanks her feet away and ends up hurting herself as I’m trying to trim. Hope that helps a little.

Your cat sounds just like a cat. Don’t know why the comparison of a dog was made-if you had sharp teeth and nails wouldn’t you find ways to use them on things other than food?
@IDrawToothpicks Жыл бұрын
@@strawbolita my friends cat that passed away recently was a Siamese mix. He DEFINITELY acted like a dog. Loved to roll on the ground and show it's stomach and even let me rub it's belly many times if not every time. not every cat is like this. Most DOGS are. Why aren't we allowed to compare a cat to a dog. Most cats aren't inclined to be rubbed on the stomach , go outside , or are super playful like a dog. Those are mostly dog traits. Cats have a range of personalities but dogs have mostly the same. Playful and pack animals. I've rarely seen a dog that isn't just happy to see anyone and want to play. Unless they had behavioral problems , I mean Egyptians use t worship cats and they didn't need to be in groups like you see lions normally are today ❤️

@@joyglass4470 a myth that it hurts them? They cut the tips off their feet, including part of the bone and pads underneath their feet. It's the equivalent of cutting off the tips of your fingers and half your fingernails off. Buying a beautiful new couch right after adopting my very first kitten wasnt the best decision . My sister who is a cat mom of 5 already suggested that I get these couch protectors from this brand called pawdenme.com. This helped so much, I had them on for a month and within that time my kitten learned to use the scratching post instead of the couch, chairs and bed, all by herself. This one is clear so it doesnt spoil the look of your furniture . Easiest Solution ever! Before this, I was constantly having to keep an eye on her and redirecing her to the scratching post, while working from home.

My cat's patience limit for these is 4 caps. I found that out the hard way. So now I just put on a couple at a time and just let him set the pace. I can pretty much tell when he has had enough so I just give him a couple of hours and then we do 2 more. I literally called every vet and groomer within a 30 mile radius and absolutely nobody would do it. Quite frankly I am kind of glad. I think it is less traumatic for me to do it at his pace.
@kirskiell14322 жыл бұрын
My cat got traumatized after staying in a few days in a horrible vet and a lot of progress I made in getting close to her was thrown away. She became very sensitive when someone touches her too much especially in some areas (mouth, belly, and paws). This made it impossible for her to get her nail trimmed even by vets(not the horrible one) and groomer. Hopefully this could be the solution for her and to save her groomer.

I think this is a great alternative to declawing. I looked into declawing and omg its literally amputating the end of their toes. I have a kitten now that I rescued, and my mother has paper thin skin and doesn't heal well. I want to protect my mother and also be able to have my little Luna in the home. I'm looking into these as an option.

I keep hearing that the nail caps force their claws to remain out all the time? Maybe I haven't read enough content to make a good decision. Help? I was hoping to put some on a foster boy that keeps scratching... long story short, he was an abandoned kitty and we took him in. Bad earmites... vet treated him and neutered him, but earmites keep returning, despite multiple treatments (yes, I know they're hard to get rid of... using drops as well as occasional 1-tip and peroxide cleanup), but he keeps scratching. He was beaten up and scratched up by what I guess would be feral cats before we rescued him. HIV positive, so he has a suppressed immune system

@cloti66513 жыл бұрын
My cat does the same. He's allergic (food and stress related allergies) and when he's stressed, he just obsesses about scratching one spot. He used to chew his own tail. Now is the ear scratching. Sometimes it's due to environmental or behavioral issues such as other cats/members of the family stressing them, sometimes is just a "habit" they get as a way to release tension (i.e. if they don't get enough play time). It's interesting to try different routines, or give them spaces just for them. But sometimes this doesn't help and you can't break the cycle so things like these claw caps are a good solutions. But I would def recommend you get him checked for allergies or infections in the ears if you haven't already. Good luck!

I used these on my old cat all the time. She didn't mind them...but she was very good at pulling them off with her teeth. My newly adopted cat however, is very skittish and HATES having her nails trimmed, so it will be quite the task to get them on her, plus side though, is that she has no teeth, so they may last longer lol. She is starting to destroy my carpets, despite my best efforts to find alternatives (including two different types of cat posts with different angles to try, mats specifically for her to pick at, cardboard scratchers all to no avail.
