when we adopted our cat at the animal rescue facility, she was located alone in a large enclosure. We wondered why and they told us she didn’t get along with other cats. She was found by a woman who saw her alone and outdoors. She rescued her and took her to the animal rescue center. She’d been there 6 months. I immediately wanted her. She’s a 14 lb gray tabby and I love her so much. My husband puts a video on his computer of squirrels and birds. She loves it. We also have an enclosed deck where she goes outside and chirps at the hummingbirds that come to the feeder b

My "indoor" cat eats Iams indoor cat food, enjoys our screened in balcony at will (we are in Florida), actually goes out on a leash almost every day to enjoy fresh grass and hunting lizards. Every day after his (hunt) he eats high calorie wet food! His weight is ideal, he is as happy as can be!
@mellawes533Күн бұрын
Cats like to GRAZE, so your cat having 24/7 access to a good quality dry food is very important. They like to eat a little often, so wet food twice a day and dry food left out will NOT make your cat fat! Cats only eat when they're hungry!!
@Uttrediay6 күн бұрын
Another thing worth mentioning is that they can get stressed if there is a part of their home that they can't get access to. They always inspect all parts of their dwellings routinely, and are especially eager to inspect places that they haven't had access to for a while. Inspecting and foraging outdoors of course is another thing they enjoy a lot if they can.

The day after I brought home my adopted Torties in July of 2020, I put together a cat tree that had scratching posts built into it. I bought it at Walmart on the way to pick up my cats. Pixie immediately started using it but Penny decided she wanted to use my bed posts. I had a scrap piece of plywood in the garage that was 4 inches wide and 8 foot long. I cut it into 2 foot stripes and used zip ties to hold them in place on the bed posts. Now the posts are covered and Penny has been using it daily ever since. Occasionally one zip tie will slip out of place or gets broken by her daily use but I have more to replace them with. Over the years Pixie has managed to totally shred the scratch posts on the cat tree so I bought another tree to replace it with. I also got a 3 legged scratching post (looks like a small table) and they both like to lay on the top of it and Pixie likes to shred on it too. I have also tossed a 2 foot long scrap of 2x4 onto the floor where the food/water bowls are and Penny likes to use that to scratch on. It seems like Pixie likes scratching posts and Penny likes to scratch on lumber.
@aspensulphateАй бұрын
My cat was like your Penny. At first, Milo ignored the large, twisted-rope scratching post that I provided. Instead, he liked to scratch the woodwork and cabinets. I've trained him to use the scratching post by giving him squeeze-up treats which he has to climb up the scratching post to reach. Worked like a charm! He loves the scratching post now, and uses it all the time.

Our cat loves to scratch on the sisal rug at the door. Thought at first she would prefer three different scratching posts we had gotten, no, she likes the sisal. Climbs up the scratching post to get to the top basket of the cat tree. Would have thought that lumber could have slivers. I bought a product for paw or scratch infections, haven’t had to use it yet. She doesn't watch tv much but I have seen her pay attention to soccer, "Life Below Zero," and busy chefs. She isn't fond of the brush, but prefers finger combing by me. I telecommute, so the rare times that errands take longer than usual, she gives me a stern look :).

Thank you very much for this very good educational video. Fortunately, we have many sensitive pet "parents" out there nowadays, but we can always learn something new. Those people who can't be bothered worrying about their pet preferably should not get one at all. There are other alternatives. Pets are loving, loyal and a wonderful gift. (As are all animals). It's just that we humans have been treating them terribly for far too long. At last, there is a change for the better. Many programs are geared to cats, dogs and other pets people keep nowadays. Keeping them interested is important for their wellbeing. The videos seem to fascinate many pets now. Clever toys are available, as well as items which can record our voices. Sitting at home all day, bored, or worse, being exposed to wall shattering loud music, is damaging to people as well as their animal companions. Looking after your animals' needs is rewarding for them and us. I still cringe when I see some of the things people do, when they show their "funny" pet videos. Happily, many humans are much more sensitive and give their pets (and animals on a farm, etc.) a pleasant, comfortable shelter. There are lots of things one can do to interact with them so that you and they will enjoy a wonderful, healthy relationship.

In the 30+ years that I (61M) have been living in my house I have seen many critters in my neighborhood as it it close to the edge of town. I have seen Skunk, Raccoon, and Opossum roaming around as well as other animals. Last Spring I found a grass snake in my yard. Also, there is a hardware store 2 blocks away and a lumber yard one block from my house and the corner that I live on sees 2-3 semi trucks deliver to the lumber yard every day. During the Spring and Summer months that can jump to 4-5 trucks daily and my street can see a lot of traffic. Because of the combination of these factors and the dangers that they pose I have decided that my girls will be indoor cats only. I don't want my girls to get hurt as it would tear me up if something happened to them.

People steal beautiful cats. So be careful. For indoor kitties you’ll need window screens to allow fresh air to circulate even in winter, lots of toys, trees to climb up high, to survey their domain. They think they’re in charge of everything. A Running wheel, stuff to hang from, platforms to leap to. No tinsel. Brushing every day. A glass of a decent Cabernet Sauvignon during a petting session at the end of a hard day’s work is a good way to decompress with your kitty, lowers the blood pressure too. PRETTY LITTER DOESN’T STINK. Advice not an ad. We had two grown cats, 1 big litter box. We removed feces daily and tossed the litter out to wash the box weekly. Not a hint of cat urine stink. I imagine it would last longer for only one cat. Our litter box had a cover for privacy. No fooling- we animals are vulnerable when we take care of business so we want to be alone and leave no trace of our presence.

It might be good to get a second cat as a companion and playmate for the older one, but let them get used to each other slowly. Works well, my cat enjoyed it a much (I have couple of clips about it). 10 only hardcore, only robot! Selfwashing litterbox solves the problem 100%. But it requires exhaust ventilation as it STIIINKS when drying and disperses its ceramic fillers, so robot vacuum becomes a must.

Maybe your grandmum would be able to use a hearing aid or headphones or please search for a quiet getaway spot for your cat. It's imperative that she have some peace and quiet, as noise can even drive humans crazy, let alone highly sensitive cats (or dogs). Please give your granny a big hug and kiss, and your kitty, too. I hope you are able to figure out an area where your cat has total privacy and quiet time, so you and she/he can live together for a long, happy time. Maybe a soundproof room or nice, comfy box with insulation, I'm not sure how you can do it, but please DO whatever it takes so your sweet kitty can have a peaceful time out. If you don't have scratching posts then you have scratching furniture! Better to buy a scratching post than to have shredded furniture. Oh, and forget having a Xmas tree. Your cat will destroy every hanging decoration and pull the tree over.
@marcellepesek303828 күн бұрын
@AlistairKiwi. I'd just as soon let my kitty scratch a piece of furniture than be miserable. They need something to scratch. One of mine simply ignored the cat tower and scratching post attached to it, so I ended up using it for my plants. Maybe get a log or something like a less expensive chair it can use. Christmas trees have caused many accidents when kitties feel tempted to jump into all those branches and get at the bright goodies blinking there. If you really feel you must put up a tree, perhaps a good vet or cat behaviour specialist, like Galaxy Jackson, has advice on this subject. I'd never lock my cat away anywhere; they need to be with their family. Maybe you can give up the old habit of having a Christmas tree and instead decorate your home in a festive, yet safe way. Happy, stress-free Christmas to you and your cat.
