Can I ask how long did it take your son to get used to the boots and bar? Our little guy got his on yesterday and he’s been crying pretty much non stop. No sleep. Also, did his heel sit flush to the back right away? We can’t seem to get his heel to sit all the way back and down in the boot.

Poor baby! It took Isaiah a couple of days, but he adjusted pretty quickly. How is your son doing now? That’s so rough! Is he getting used to it? I remember Isaiah’s heel being difficult to get in the right position at first but as I got used to putting them on it got easier and his heel sat back in there like it should.

What level of sb your son has ? My son is two months old with sb leve L4 and i worry will he be able to walk 😔

Isaiah’s is between L3 and L4. We have made friends with lots of kids with sb over the years and one thing I can say is they are all amazing kids! Everyone has their own things they struggle with and different levels of ability, but they all blow their families away with what they are able to do. I know your son is absolutely perfect and a joy to your family!❤️

What kind of shoes does he wear when he’s not wearing the ponseti?

He wears custom AFOs during the day that his orthotist made him.

Is spina bifida also treated with these boots or any other treatment ?

Spina bifida is a life long thing. Isaiah will always have Spina Bifida, but there are things that can be done to help with some of the issues that go along with it. He had surgery in utero to close the opening on his spine, but the effects of Spina Bifida are still there. For example, Isaiah has AFOs to help support his ankles and give him more stability when he walks. So while he doesn’t have movement in his feet(because of Spina Bifida) he is able to walk better with the support of his AFOs. He also has ponsetti boots and bar to keep his feet in the correct position at night so he doesn’t have a relapse of clubbed feet. So those are treatments of things that are caused by Spina Bifida but not actually treating Spina Bifida if that makes sense. There is no cure or treatment for Spina Bifida. I hope that answer makes sense!😊

Our son’s pediatrician sent us to an orthopedic surgeon. He was the one who said we needed the ponseti boots and sent us to his orthotist to be sized and to get them. I would start with your child’s doctor and go from there. The doctor should be able to point you in the right direction.

Does the government support these children?😢😢
