When i fitted mine i threw the instructions away never read them anyway.Banged in a few nails as i never had a drill and to stop it falling off the wall i used plenty duck tape.Looked and worked great and it has only fell of the wall a few times.Should i have bought better duck tape?

Thanks Yvonne you are a star but i never read instructions i bought some extra heavy duty tape yesterday and although the shelf is now slanting at 45 degrees it seems to be staying on the wall.I just have to remember not to slam the front door.

Always get a floating shelf, dont cheap out and get one of those ones where the brakets hang down at the corners, they can be a nuisance to level.

I live in a rental flat in NZ, would love to put a floating shelf up but landlords might not like the holes in the wall when one day I move out

Hi, the holes could be filled back in. However, we would always recommend speaking to your landlord for permission 😊

A quick question whilst I'm here, I drilled 4 holes into an internal solid wall for shelf brackets, but the holes are a bit off even though I marked it correctly. I now need to drill another 4 holes slightly higher and to the left. How far apart do the holes need to be from the first set of holes to avoid weakening the new drilled holes? Also, any advice for drilling holes accurately without the drill bit wondering off? I'm thinking off using a much smaller drill bit first and then working my way upto the 8mm bit that I need. Thank you kindly.

Drilling a smaller hole first is common practice. It's called a pilot hole. To avoid the drill wandering, use a 6mm bit without the hammer function enabled to start off with. Press firm and go slow. When you switch to the 8mm bit, use the hammer function on the drill. If your drill has gears via a selector switch, use the gear that gives the fastest speed, first gear. You could also use a centre punch and hammer to create a dent for the drill bit to nestle in to. This works well to avoid it slipping. You've very likely did the job by now. But hopefully you and others find these tips handy for any future shelving jobs. All the best.

What size drill bit and rawl plug do you use?

We would recommend a wall fixing, like the below - this will most likely fit the bracket that comes with the floating shelf. bit.ly/3PAocsz In case you require a slightly bigger fixing, we would recommend this one. bit.ly/43uvOT7 The Wall plug will say on the packaging what size screw you will need based on the wall plug you choose 😊

Just so the shelf doesn't slide around on the rods.

There's only 2 screws put in the bottom of the shelve and they both screw into the bracket securing the shelf in place 😊

Hi there, I'm afraid a floating shelf wouldn't support a TV. It would be better to use a TV wall bracket.
