To those new to DIY projects. Save money by using your cellphone and not buying a bubble level. Smart phones have built in gyroscope sensors. You can find a good bubble level app for both iPhone and Android phones.

Very clear and helpful information! I just adopted a cat and really want to build him cat walks, but I have never done anything like that before. Love the tip about using carboard as a wall guard, it's so simple but sometimes you just don't think of something like that until the damage is done!

No joke! A search for shelf hanging videos first brings up loads of floating shelves or people hanging 12 ft long live edge shelf desks. I just wanted a simple shelf for my craft space. This was perfect and no needless stories!

If you are attaching the shelf in a non solid wall, and you are using only two brackets for the shelf it is much easier to attach the brackets to the board first, then put a level on top of the shelf and attach screws.

So I bought some cheap ass brackets from Ikea and when I got home I was wondering how am I supposed to fix them on the wall when the holes are so tiny and I should probably not use a screw big enough to eat through the plastic. So I started looking on KZbin and I found this video where you use exactly the same brackets. But I didn't get the chance to see what size screw you used and how it fits through the bracket hole.

A quick question whilst I'm here, I drilled 4 holes into an internal solid wall for shelf brackets, but the holes are a bit off even though I marked it correctly. I now need to drill another 4 holes slightly higher and to the left. How far apart do the holes need to be from the first set of holes to avoid weakening the new drilled holes? Also, any advice for drilling holes accurately without the drill bit wondering off? I'm thinking off using a much smaller drill bit first and then working my way upto the 8mm bit that I need. Thank you kindly.

I bought a pair of shelf brackets but one side of the bracket is longer than the other side so my question is which side is fixed to the wall. Thanx.
@DrapertoolsLtd4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed. You would fit the long side to the wall. The size of the short side denotes what depth of shelf you could use. The ‘short side’ of the bracket used should be around ¾ of the depth of the shelf to give you adequate support. We hope this helps!

I found a bit of an easier way is to just mark and drill of the top hole of the bracket first. Then, partially screw the bracket on. This means you can work a bit more hands free to get it vertical with spirit-level and mark the lower hole.

What screws did you use to attach bracket to shelf. Please show
@DrapertoolsLtd2 жыл бұрын
We filmed this one a few years ago so it’s a little difficult to give a definitive answer. It would depend on the size of the hole, plug and the bracket used. As a guide Screw sizes for yellow, red or brown wall plugs. Based on Fischer fixings the recommended screw sizes for yellow, red and brown wall plugs are as follows: Yellow: 3 to 4mm screw. Red: 4 to 5mm screw. Brown: 4.5 to 6mm screw. Hope this helps. Best of luck with your project.
