@@DC-zg8jk That's cool to hear, how did you know? They way he breaks down the mechanics of putting, is just awesome. His ability to explain it and translate how it should feel really made the difference. The first time I tried it on the course, the disc just flw completely different than it ever has for me. Low laser that felt too low out of the hand that just hit dead center from @ 35 feet. I normally have to lob them from that distance.

I took a long break from playing. Putting used to be the weakest part of my game. Thankfully I pretty much forgot all my old bad habits and after watching this last spring…was able to make putting one of my stronger parts of my game. Just rewatching to brush up. I actually just bought a few P2X putters yesterday. Love the feel of them in my hand. I was using a Hardy Fudge this summer but your putter has a better feel overall. Thanks for the tips. Hope you have a great off-season and hope next season goes well (Lord willing). God bless.

@ClarkPotter Stokely: 1. admits on camera to teaching the wrong putting technique for years. 2. Sidearm, approaches target with square shoulders. That is awful form. No other pro does this. 3. Sidearm, encourages strange ritualistic neurotic habits & arm swings before throw. 4. Sidearm, claims elbow should only EVER be tight to body on hyzer throw only. Reality is it s/b for a straight shot as well. He really embellishes to newbs that ur elbow should rarely ever be tight to the body. What he shud say is elbow shud be away from body on reach back & follow thru and anny. 5. Encourages never to do field work. Only practice by playing rounds. Ridiculous. 6. Teaches u shud not throw it hard. States smooth form will get you distance. Well no shit it will. Arm speed on top of smooth release will yield max results. 7. Teaches u shud throw every disc in ur bag FH & BH. Reality is most pros have specific moulds for FH. My beef with this tip is he doesnt explain to newbs FHers like OS discs to prevent turnover. Turnover = speed > spin + stability. 8. Claims 600' throw in a vid where it was clearly no more than 350. 9. Lives off a distance record he set in 100 mph winds in the 90s. 10. Claims you should never have elbow pain from throwing forehand if you have the correct form. That is complete nonsense. Your putting max pressure in tiny ligaments you are going to have pain over time. 11. Believes Paige Pierce's play hasn't downgraded, just that all the competition has gotten better and she's stayed the same. Mind blowing takeaway.

Superb video, I got distracted part way through and putted for an hour or so the two things I was focused on was curling my fingers and then extending which seemed to give my releases a lot more snap and especially a lot more consistency. I also started putting to the side, bringing the disc almost down to my left knee, allowing me to keep my elbow inside which already seems so much more consistent. Already my put is feeling better, thanks!!!

Turns out I've been handicapping myself with my backswing of my putting motion. I was drawing it back to the same side of my body, which made it accurate when I got it right, but also sacrificed a lot of power and could make it inconsistent if I wasn't perfect. I changed my backswing to go down to my opposite leg just a few days ago and though I am still getting used to it I can tell I am putting so much better this way. Thanks so much!!

Watching the slow-mo putts on coverage, the other thing I notice Gannon doing differently than most others is that he brings the disc back and holds it vertically, nearly flat against his leg or body, nose down tail up, rather than holding it level and stopping when the back edge touches body or leg as most others do. Why is this important? Because it gives him another 9 inches of stroke right where it can do the most good. I tried it myself and initially it feels weird because the disc has to flip up from vertical to horizontal every time, but it seems to make a huge difference in how much power I can generate while keeping the disc on a lower dead straight line. To see if this was really the key for me, I did a practice putting session this evening and committed to just this change for every putt, the whole session. It does introduce a little hyzer that I'd like to flatten out a bit more, but I definitely felt the "pop" he was talking about for the first time, and the direction of release (azimuth) was really consistent. I hit like 15 putts in a row at 20+ feet moving between each putt, and was getting 3-4 in a row from circle's edge pretty consistently which is way above my norm. It feels and looks a little odd to start with the putter held vertically like that touching or nearly touching my body, but I can't argue with the results. I gotta see how it holds up in the wind, but I'm almost ready to switch. I already hold the putter the same as Gannon, except I do curl my pinky, so I need to see if I can stop that. Maybe I'll get even more power. Maybe it'll help with the hyzer angle.

Ok, so I did some testing at home inside. I measured up 6, and 8 meters, and tested this kind of Buhr putt compared to my regular straddle put that I've used for about a year now. 6 meters (30 putts) Straddle style: 25 Buhr style: 29 8 meters (60 putts) Straddle style: 48 Burh style: 57 Total of all 90 putts Straddle style: 73 Buhr style: 86 Takeaways: The power that I get from this put is superb, it also feels very effortless, the arm feels relaxed and just swings kind of like pendulum towards the basket and because of the long reach back to the knees it's so much more powerful than my regular putt. This is a putt that is more like trough the chains, my previous one was more of a to the chains put and needs more height the longer I get from the basket. The disadvantage is that it needs to create just as much power every time to get it in the basket. With this other style that Buhr shows I could still not follow through properly, but because of the power of the putt it still sneaked into the chains. So with longer putts, this style should also have a huge advantage. I need to do more testing and hopefully, I can keep the put consistent as I now will continue with this putt as long as a straddled stance is not required because of obstacles on the course.

This technique has added so much power to my putt, I can use a normal stroke know from outside C1. Haven't figured out the feel for a step putt yet with this. @ryanholmes6601
@ryanholmes6601 2 жыл бұрын
@@markhumphrey8894 I had been thinking of it as an arm swing powered by the lower body with and active wrist snap, which it is...for some reason I was thinking about the elbow drive that Gannon mentions.for putting, to me, when you get the mechanics right it feels like a compact mini whip where the elbow goes first which loads up the wrist and ends in the sort of energized finger pop he refers to. So I tried leading the forehand with the elbow which cocked my wrist which produced surprisingly powerful, efficient, and wobble free forehand with an ultimate lid. It for sure translated to driving a forehand, now that I can feel the timing of that, I can add power to it without thinking its about throwing this disc with the hand or arm it about loading the system that results in a cleanly ejected disc. I should probably do video or something, but thank you for asking this question. When ever I try to communicate a sort of "aha moment " I learn more about it in the process!

I come from a long background of training and coaching a lot of different sports and I am very interested in the pedagogic side of it (disc golf is what I such at most, which is probably why I can't stop doing it). What is different and unique about your way of teaching is the fact that you can actually explain what and why you are doing it the way you are doing, in contrast to many other great players to whom the technique comes so naturally they cannot really explain it to others. Also, you are the first player that have been able to also show how not to do (your last video) and the first really that I have seen who have been able to demonstrate the importance of the power pocket with otherwise bad form. There are a lot of theories out there, so it easily gets very confusing, but you manage to keep it simple and on the point. Great work!

Thank you for this! Drawing back to the left knee changed everything for me. I never really understood where to draw back to. I'm 6'7 and this really works for me. Still working on the finger spin thing! Let's go Gannon!
