I swear people think maintaining a pool is just run of the mill, no problem, lol. But the guys like you all sit back with major pride when you can watch that filter pumping a solid pressure out with the correct levels looking crystal blue and enjoy the results of our labor. I have been thru he'll and back with my pool. Filter cracksd, holes in new liner, probably my fault because I had no experience. The worst is that I have a neighbor who thinks he is the pool God yet no help. He's kind of a dick I realized over time.

I took the eye out of my return and fit a 90* elbow into the hole. It makes the water circulate around the pool and not out mostly to the middle. Skimmer will work better and any debris at the bottom of pool will collect in the center making it super fast and easy to get out. No need for a vacuum.

I viewed and applied this setup to mine with some slight modifications. I used 1 inch pvc in the 2 ports from the pool. To make the (2) 1 inch pieces fit into the ports, I wrapped the ends of a pair of pliers with electrical tape and used the pliers to stretch out the ports to fit the 1 inch pvc. They obviously fit very snug after doing this and only needed 1 hose clamp on each. I also used my pvc cutter to cut the debris guards on the inside of the pool to about 1 inch in length to fit them in the ports to be able to use them.

Forgive me if it's already been said, but you will get better filtration if you move the skimmer over to the inlet further from the outlet and push it as far away from the outlet as possible. Then point the outlet away from the inlets. This causes a swirl effect in the pool and really makes a difference.
@LifeLessOrdinary3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve had it in both inlets before you are correct it works best in The second one. And it’s hard to tell but I do have the return pointing away from the inlets. But the part intex gives you pushes the water more center then anything.

Try and get away from the 1/2" inlet. On the inlet side you want the water to flow as freely as possible. Pumps are good at pushing water but really bad a at sucking water, so that the inlet is more important than the outlet. You can mount an external surface skimmer to these Intex pools and the connect that with 2" pipe to the pump. It's way better in getting dirt and bugs of the water surface and you don't have the thing dangling inside the pool. I know it takes some nerves to cut into the pool liner but it's well worth it. Something like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2OuhmiNd82pebM

You know what may work vs the 3/4 and clamps is a rubber coupler reducer. I used them when going PVC and used it to and from pump and didnt leak. I also swapped all hoses with the flex PVC plus easier to adapt to my sand filter, when the clamp ever gets here. I like that you didnt have to cut a bigger hole. Sure better water flow and easier to put in fittings to go to 1.5 but not ready to cut. 1 wrong cut on hole and there you go.

I agree, these plastic tubes crack in the sun. I would definitely upgrade. But when the pool is in use the walls wobble so the pipes would make cracking noises surly. I think replacing everything to PVC apart from one small length of tubing to the pool wall to allow flexibility. Then just replace this part if they crack again.

CPVC, PVC 40, and PVC 80. Each has a different outside diameter. The cream color pipe you used is CPVC that is measured by outside diameter. PVC 40 and 80 are measured by Inside diameter. You could use PVC 40 in a 1" and coupled to the pool screens, but would be work best if you heated the PVC 40 and then pushed it on the pool spout. That way you could still install the screen covers inside the pool. Just a thought.
@LifeLessOrdinary3 жыл бұрын

I am about to try both of these suggestions... Woke up to 2 hose leaking this morning... Could you clarify the heating of the PVC40 & pushing it ON TO the pool spout? Instead of into the rubberized area, correct?
@713blackout Жыл бұрын
I’m rounding up the materials as I type to do this project. Are saying that instead of pushing the 3/4” CPVC through the inside of the rubber and into the pool, that I should get 1” PVC40 piece, heat it, and then push the 1” pvc40 over the rubber on the outside of the pool while the pool screen is still attached on the inside of the pool?
@bureaufamily5482 Жыл бұрын
This would be nice to know. Still unanswered
@tmfwilliams Жыл бұрын
He is saying instead of putting a 3/4” cpvc piece and sliding it into the piece attached to the pool that has the screen on the inside (inlet valve and return valve) to get pvc 40 and heat it up to soften it and place it on the outside of that same piece. Imagine the hoses not being attached and the valves just sticking out of the pool. Those pieces. So it’s not a lil lose.

I found a bestway 800 gph sand filter for a good price, about what it would have cost in cartridges for the summer. Here’s my question, I have a similar size pool, 15’ x 48”. The top rating for this sand filter is 4200 gallon pool. Does anyone think it’s worth going to the next size up since I’m at the max pool size rating for a new pump and filter? I haven’t installed the new pump/filter yet as I’m trying to decide. Only paid about $135, but the next size up is well over $200. Only upgraded bc I didn’t like the waste of the cartridges. Pool cleanliness was not the issue.

All of the ribbed flexi hoses that Bestway/Intex/Coleman pools come with are crap and designed to fail, to force you to buy new ones, driving their revenue. I eventually replaced the big ones leading to and away from the pump/filter with two inch thread-reinforced hose from HD, and a lot of PVC fittings/adapters/barbs to make everything line up. I am sure much of that will be obsoleted by switching to a sand filter, but we'll see. The vinyl lines I replaced to the suction ports do fine until heated up, at which point they begin to collapse, letting air into the system. I like the PVC option and will try it. In the meantime, I keep a small tarp over everything to protect it from the Florida sun. Easy to replace when necessary.

Yeah I agree the hoses that come with it are crap, you will love a pvc upgrade

Thanks so much, gonna give your setup a try this summer, hate how the old pipes crack.. just wondering why you didn’t change all piping to pvc?

I thought about it but everything else is the white 2” flexible tubing and it never cracks so I just left it for now. 👍
@lliaolsen7283 жыл бұрын
That grate it a safety feature not just a debris filter. If there is enough suction and both inlets are covered it prevents vacuum entrapment by providing a gap.

Hi! Your video seems to show the most detail so far. Thank you!! I just bought all the gear but went with 1 1/4” pipes because I wanted less weight and bulk. That seems pretty close to the size of the cheap tubing from the factory. Do you think I’ll be ok or should I exchange for larger PVC?

Did u upgrade your outward plunger? Where the water goes back into the pool my current pool is a 1.25 hole but need to do upgrade to 1.5 adapter to connect the pump.
@LifeLessOrdinary6 ай бұрын
No I don’t change the return side. If you make that end larger it won’t circulate your pool because of low pressure.

Nice job dude, but get rid of those tiny returns. Try to keep at least 1.5 to 2 inch return lines into the pool for optimum efficiency. I won't go into details since I'm sure you learned by now. Did you ever change them in 2021?
@LifeLessOrdinary3 жыл бұрын
No I haven’t yet, seems to be running great as is but I might upgrade the pool after this season. If I do I’ll make them bigger for sure 👍
@DTB2.03 жыл бұрын
I agree. The 1.5" is pointless if you choke it right back down to .75"
@carlmyman Жыл бұрын
Everything looks great except for the 2 inlets (3/4 inch) going to the new PVC pipes with all the fittings. While you were at it you should have upgraded to the bigger inlets that accept the 1 1/2 intex hoses & plumbed the PVC from there. The 2 little inlets are a restriction, the more water you can suck the cleaner and easier it is to maintain. Going from a small, 3/4 to the bigger 1 1/2 or 2" is a waste of volume. Bigger inlets will not restrict your volume like the 3/4 does. Just my opinion since I've gone this route (3000 Gallon Sand filter). Sure you have to open the holes up in the pool but it's nothing major. Hope this helps those looking to follow suite.

question, the piece(s) that go inside the two openings that the old hoses suck the water thru (you didn't show the inside of the pool after you put it all together). Did you just leave it bare once you inserted the pipes and clamped it down?
@LifeLessOrdinary2 жыл бұрын
My pool has covers that will block debris from going through the hole. What I did was cut those back a little bit so they didn’t go in as deep. And they pretty much met the PVC in the middle and worked just fine.

Great job! Where can I find the black seal, stop that is on the inside from the pool so the water can not get out.

Thjs is a must do,Pvc pipes. install a sump with a 1 degree slope to the center, install center drain. pipe the drain in sand under the pool. Install a flow control valve To drain away from pool. Install a wide jacuzzi skimmer above your return skimmer and attach it to your effluent drain line to drain off overflow from rainwater. this removes the expensive cost and mess from installing a French drain. Keeps the pool from overflowing and damage.

How do you vacuum after installing this with the 3/4 pvc in both inlets? Neither the black plug nor the white adapter for the hose will fit in the holes now.

How does the new fitting do once people are in the pool? I’m sure it doesn’t flex with the pool. Does this cause any problems? Our pool is a soft sided pool, so I am wondering if this will work with our pool.

Someone's probably already said this, but don't you worry about the pvc cracking from the pool flexing back and forth? I'd probably at least put a flexible hose to the bottom so it has some room to move around. Otherwise, looks cool.

Schedule 40 pvc doesn't crack easily. The small vibrations or movements caused by that small pump most lilley won't do much to damage it.

Good video. The two inlet ports, did you keep the the parts that were originally used to connect tube to? I have that skimmer as well but need the stock inlet hardware to attach skimmer to. My problem is that stock inlet hardware goes all the way to outside where hose hooks up. How do you stick the 3/4” pvc into port and still be able to use your skimmer? It’s the same size diameter too. Does it just hang out more inside the pool instead of flush against?
@LifeLessOrdinary3 жыл бұрын
Yes I kept it all the same, on the skimmer I just cut the skimmer inlet adapter short enough it meets the p c in the middle of the opening.
