I know I’m late, but the post routes get me a-lot especially against faster receivers who break quick
@GridironStuds Жыл бұрын
Post routes are tough. Make proper use of your leverage. If you are aligned inside, work to remain inside. If you are outside and have no help to the post, turn sooner and protect yourself against the 7, 8 and 9 route ala when you are in Cover 4. Finally pay attention to the WR's split. Sometimes they will tell you when a post might be coming.

Traffic Routes aka Pick Routes back in the day only those routes gave me issues but I was vs Tightends or rushing The Qb 90% of the time as a nickel safety/linebacker so not vs the the wideouts unless it was a fake blutz zone concept

Tough route. Hold your leverage by using a weave as he stems inside on you. Don't get out of your back pedal if you don't have to. If you are holding your leverage, the WR will try all kind of tricks to move you. This will include accelerating to your outside shoulder, using a rocker step, big head fakes, etc. Don't bite on any of it.

Slants or ins or any double move route
@GridironStuds Жыл бұрын
Slants are tough if you are playing outside leverage in press. Typically, guys hop outside to their leverage and that leaves them vulnerable to inside breaking routes, the toughest of which is the slant. Be more patient on the wide receiver's release. Don't be so eager to move outside on his first move. If he somehow gets outside of you, squeeze him to the sidelines. This should help you stay closer to his hip on inside routes like the slant

Double moves are tough. When you get fooled on a double move, don't go running to the WR, get vertical up the field. Defend the goal line immediately. That's actually one of the tips in my e-book "101 DB Tips". That book would really help you.... 101dbtips.com

here’s what i do if it the reciever is actually doing a stop don’t try to make a play on him right away wait for the qb to throw, so if it actually is a stop and go your not overcommitting on the reciever right away but wait for him to turn around and do the go

How can I do better covering post routes because that route gives me the most trouble
@GridironStuds Жыл бұрын
We must be talking about in 1-on-1s because typically in man coverage in a game there's help on a post from safety. Is this in press or off man?
@willg3011 Жыл бұрын
1) Know where your help is at 2) Before the snap blink , breathe and focus on one of the numbers on the player jersey make a line between those numbers as your eye focus for his midsection which must move before he makes his move . Those numbers are your focal point especially for footwork Salsa type players nothing is happening until the core moves.Until that line moves stay in your back pedal/ once it moves break to the side which you don't have help or if the short side stay inside making the Qb have to make a throw between you and the side line over the top

Work on having a better pedal so you can stay in it longer and also work on your break out of your crossover run.

Study WR splits to get an idea of when it's coming. Squeeze the WR's outside hip as he stems up the field and be prepared to trail him when he cuts across the field. If you are close after he crosses the QB, look for the ball because it's often not in stride. You may be able to make a big play on a ball thrown slightly behind.

@GridironStuds Жыл бұрын
They make most struggle. Use good eye discipline. Check the WR out of your break. Don't stare down the QB and when you do get beat, get vertical. Don't go running to the WR right away. That makes it worse

They are difficult routes to cover because of the separation over the middle. Study the splits, recognize the release and have a plan if they break inside. Can you cut underneath because you have safety help in the middle or do you need to stay top shoulder because you have no safety in the post or the team likes to also run 7 routes.
