Gardening is very theoropeutic, and this learning channel is one of the best :) But please remember, the only way to true and lasting peace is though The Prince of Peace, The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who came for our salvation (e.g. John 3:16, 6:38-40), and who can make us children of God by believing in His name (John 1:12). @@evelgreytarot8401 I know someone who has goats and the issue with them is that they are herd animals and need other goats to be happy. They are miserable on their own and don't take to other animals such as dogs or ducks. They can also be a bit costly to keep as they require regular de-worming, hoof trimming, can and will eventually get dental problems and arthritis, can get skin infestations and infections amongst other things, and require a variety of different foods. People often mistakenly believe that they live on grass only, but they won't be healthy or happy with that.

@@tngardener231 clearly i don't know you, however that is awesome, thank you for being a decent person and sharing information to keep interested people happy and healthy. You are a blessing to and for your community. In my opinion we need to support our farmers (in any country) however, when they are producing sub par chemical laden produce for us to eat that is designed to kill other animals, i would much much much rather grow my own. I am just starting my journey, and not because of covid-19, but because partially I'm broke, and partially for convenience and partially for the obvious health benefits of not dousing our food with herbicides and pesticides. I mean, its all good and well to remove these chemicals by washing them, however, how do you remove the chemicals that's hit the ground, soaked into the soil and that has been absorbed by your food. It would be a bit like eating a poisoned animal, washing the outside of the meat will not clean the inside of the meat. Maybe it's not a major issue for humans to eat a small amount of chemicals, but none of these chemicals to be processed by our body has to leave our immune systems better, our minds and organs healthier and we have a greater connection to ourselves through our plants. Gardening has been said to help with depression (think of it like a distraction) it helps give us fresh air, and it has to help our gut and internal bodies to keep us fighting fit and in good shape all round. I am currently trying to motivate anyone that i think would actually give it a go after probably 60 seeds planted i counter over 40 seedling sprouted in just 7 days. This has got me super excited.

Don't allow "negative" comments, such as handling "cow maneur" with your hands, to bother you into an appology for it. Those statements come from "yuppies" who find things in gardening "yuckie." It's not their forte. They haven't the passion or the beautiful appreciation one derives from what it takes to watch you garden sprout, grow, and become fruitful; Unlike themselves. You're being yourself, and I enjoy the multitude of your homemade, organic, tips, etc. Commercial products are too expensive to buy all that one needs to care for a garden that does much better than the yuppies with gloves. The lack of workforce to help with harvests has been an issue brewing for a long time, and yes, I agree it's coming to a head now! As long as a local population believes that doing harvest work is beneath them, they risk the very food on their plate. We're fortunate to have our own growing space, the skill and attitude to leverage it - but a large majority of the world's population do not have either. Whether fueled by Trump's war on itinerant workers, Brexit impacting workers from Europe and now Covid-19 shutting all borders globally and in many cases within states and regions, the grocery stores won't be stocked for long ...

@@KnackFarmer-theanswerismeat Uncertain times indeed. The production, distribution and retail system is so complex that anything could interrupt the just in time supply delivery system. For example, your million dollar tractor/??? is down and needs...say spark plugs. Your mechanic has 5 plugs and can't get the extra 3...then what? China is supposedly going back to work, with one problem. There's NO orders because everything is shut down. Normal is a long time coming. Plant your garden NOW. Just DO IT!

@Cynthia CopelandThe local population doesn't believe harvest work is beneath them. They just won't work for slave wages and put up with the conditions that illegals will work under for fear of being deported. My family used to do itinerant harvest work but like the construction industry, and fast food industry in California, the invasion of illegal immigrant labor has destroyed the ability for anyone to make a living at it. If you really cared about your own people you would demand that this slave labor force be kept out so these jobs would be viable. Just like exporting manufacturing to China where they have their own internal slave labor force and zero environmental regulations, we are hiding the true costs of globalism and are now reaping what has been sown by globalists for the last 40 years. Want masks or medicine from China? They have told us to go "drown in the sea of Coronavirus".

Hey Mark, my neighbour gave me a few pallets as i have only just started my garden (im in a share house and need everything to be able to be moved with me) due to boredom with our social distancing stuff. I plan on doing several vertical gardens thanks to your videos with the vertical garden in your pallets/compost system. Before all this i had started with my aquaponics build (thanks rob bob) but finances came to a screeching holt and figured why not start with seeds and then move them to the aquaponics setup when i can; but now i figure why not incorporate several styles of gardening to reap the rewards that each style can provide. Due to no current work i have been binge watching a few channels however i have to admit yours is probably the main one at the moment. I love your content, your enthusiasm, your presentation, personality and i have to admit your occasional dad jokes. Anyway to get to the point after some background info, i was thinking today, while outside, wouldn't it be great if you made a video to show us what you do with your herbs, i mean yes things like rosemary obviously go well with lamb chicken potatoes etc but what about some "different" uses that you use for your herbs, things that aren't so obvious. Maybe even a cooking segment occasionally if you do a bit of the cooking in your household, where its all homegrown produce, starting from you harvesting in the garden. Its just a thought. To the fellow viewers I'm not chasing likes, but if this is something you would like to see also, please give my comment a thumbs up and obviously if you don't have any interest in seeing something like this by all means give me a thumbs down, just so Mark can see how much interest there may be for my idea. I dont expect Mark to make a video for just me.

You are so blessed to have access to good manure! Here in the US, we are having issues with livestock manure and even straw bales being contaminated with aminopyralid herbicides from hay that has been sprayed and fed to the animals. This contaminated hay makes it through the animal and even through the composting process and will foul garden soil for several years :-( Plants come up twisted and contorted, or not at all. Who knew that "clean" poo would be something to be thankful for!

Yes, here in the US unless you have access to cow or horse manure that you know the farmer strictly feeds his own home grown unsprayed hay it's not safe to use cow or horse manure, also unfortunately hay and straw are unsafe. The nasty herbicide is not in ALL manure/hay/straw, but you don't know it's contaminated until your garden is ruined, and from what I understand it takes quite a while before the contamination fades. It really cuts down on options for gardening :(

Hi there, I agree with you there are some great tips from 'Self Sufficient Me'. I think that he can grow all year round almost all foods/plants, as long as summer is not too hot, or he can give /get shade and water. He will still be able to germinate seeds all year being sub- tropical. We here in England/UK get too cold for many plants/foods and feel so sad when summer starts to decline and our hard work looks like ending with frosts, our window of opportunity is so short but at least in this part of the world He can still get outside winter or summer as long as he minds the heat/mid-day sun. This helps to keep him fit and not held back. Here in the UK with so many people now told to stay at home and threat of food shortage, the seed suppliers have been busy and in this respect may help many inclined to grow much more, help them to exercise and get more air. So gardeners whom only had flowers are now into food plants. However, the allotment holders need to take precaution and not tend to their allotments too close together and perhaps those whom normally sell their grown produce need to rethink / sit this one out for a while.

Mark, be well mate! Love your videos. If you know someone at risk for the virus share this story with them. I might save them too. Thanks... My mother had advanced pneumonia at 78 years old. Breathing with only half of one lung. Wasn't responding to medical treatment. I was told she might not live through the night. I got a jar of minced raw garlic and blended a heaping tablespoon into a glass of chocolate milk. I gave it to her three times that day. Morning, afternoon and Night. A total of three tablespoons. One in each cup of milk. The next morning the nurses said it was a miracle and that her lungs were clear. No sign of any pneumonia. Hope this helps someone. She lived to age 82.

We are on the same page about 99% of the time. I’ve been gardening along the Texas coast for around 55 years. My climate is about the same as the coastal areas south of Brisbane, but with a bit more cold snaps. So what’s that 1% we do differently? Well, I like to compost all weeds at a high temperature instead of directly returning them into the bed. Why? It breaks up any life cycles of pests that the weeds might be harboring. Just a thought. I really appreciate your channel not having ridiculously pristine beds. ( You know what I mean)I also shy away from garden channels that use hundreds of dollars worth of expensive wood for garden beds. I like your 3 compartment compost area. I’ll be using that idea soon. Keep up the great work, mate. Bravo!

I'd suggest growing something that doesn't require amazing soil like peas or beans to start. in the mean time people can get a compost pile started or get some manure to age and do it right. beans can provide an amazing amount of food for the level of work and resources put into them and have fed many cultures for thousands of years. if anyone's interested I can suggest some bean varieties that will yield dry beans even in my 2-3ish month growing season.
@TheRainHarvester

@@TheRainHarvester by dry beans I mean ones that mature to the state of being a seed that can also be used as a dried bean for cooking. imagine a bag of kidney beans I suppose ;) also just incase anyone is more interested check out a variety called "papa de zapallo", they should be a tiger striped, kidney shaped, semi-climbing bean that will grow a modest crop in almost any climate. I grow them on my tomato cages up here in canada and get a consistent crop every year. they're actually more reliable than the tomatoes.

Was wondering what your magic trick to quickly getting a bed ready... and cow poo. Excellent!! Best advice, especially if someone doesn't have a compost pile on the go, cow poo is readily available at nurseries, or the big green bunsoes box, lols. I love me the $3.50 bags of cow poo. But that is such a clever idea for inoculating fresh manure with worm eggs!! I just dump the bags I get from locals in a corner of the yard for a month, but this is a much better idea!! Pile it up and let the worms compost it quick! Noice. Speaking of getting our hands into manure, my 8yo son's favourite job is when I'm mixing soil for containers or beds. We have to be careful, because rental, so we pile everything (as in, anything we can get our hands on- compost, worm cast from neighbours, manures from locals, coir, coffee grounds from the local cafe, even shredded paper- it breaks down super fast in beds and the worms go nuts!) onto a big tarp, and then mix it thoroughly with forks and spades. Except my lad doesn't see the point in that, and will happily wade in barefoot and shirtless with me to mix it with his hands. Inevitably, it's the two of us doing the work with tools discarded, hahahaha, manures be buggered. As long as we wash up on the way in, why not have some fun in the dirt!! There IS nothing like handling good, fresh soil ingredients!! I'm all for it mate!
