Try to lay the bike down or remove both of the front and rear upper heads before resorting to dropping the engine. The bike is super heavy and impossible to lift up, however, so easy to lift with the entire top end removed.
Summary: Remove the entire top end, use a scissor jack to drop the engine, then use a rubber slip mat to pull the engine out, balance it with two jacks and transfer it to a workplace for disassembly.

That's not an easy job bro. Thanks for sharing. If I had it indoors (best option for UK weather) I might try removing the wheels and lifting the frame off the engine with a hoist off a beam, as you discussed earlier. But both elements (engine and frame) are very heavy. And in an ideal world I'd lift the whole bike up on a bike lift first, tie up the frame to the overhead beam, unbolt the engine, then drop the bike lift with the engine on it, roll away, fix and reverse the process. The best thing for recovering dropped bolts in engines is a telescopic aerial with a magnet on the end. Make certain the magnet is well secured in the thing though. It would be easy to lose the bugger in the engine before you recover the bolt. Hope the rest of the project went well. Great bike. I'm eying one right now.

The rear tail section of the 94 is cracked on both sides and around the tail lights. It is loose to grab the fiberglass too. How would you attempt repairing the fiberglass tail and making it rigid?

Learn how to carbon fiber! It is the best way to put a skin on the back and bondo the pieces so that they are smooth and look perfect. Carbon fiber is as strong as steel. The next best thing is JB Weld. It is an adhesive and when mixed, is as strong as concrete; however, it is hard to sand. Those are probably the two cheapest methods I use. JB Weld is the fastest and cheapest; go to any auto store and pick up the two part adhesive for $7. You still have to bondo the front and repaint it.

Correct. Obviously a shop will have the right tools but the home mechanic might buy a bike and rebuild a bike once every 20 years! As a result, it would be just as cost efficient to purchase a new bike considering the cost of the tools and equipment you will need to perform maintenance, basic repairs, or a full engine overhaul. A lot of people make comments about this so I try to add; my videos are for people who rebuild or build bikes a few times only. It can be done, it has been done, and it may not be the best way or the correct way; but a way to accomplish the task with the least amount of money given you can sell the used equipment to the next guy. There are a lot of ways people remove the engine, this is just one way. I have seen people remove the frame off the engine but this requires the entire bike be disassembled. The VFRs I had were in such bad shape, I practically did a full restoration on them and once you do they are almost as good as when they were brand new.
