Hi, i have a slight bit of GHA in one of my DT's. Exactly as you described, been manually removing best i can, replacing GFO more than normal, etc. My question is regarding the brightwell phosphat-e. They state to dose the correct amount near mechanical filtration/protein skimmer. I have a sump where the first chamber is my drain and skimmer, then water flows to middle chamber which is my chaeto, then a filter floss pad into the final 3rd chamber with the return pumps. Where exactly should i be dosing this stuff? Would it be fine in chamber 1? or after the chaeto? Thanks a lot!

Hi Aaron are you saying get the phosphate down then hold it there with a media reactor...... is they anything out there that i can use that uses a doser ...that way i can top the container up

Do you see any issue using these alongside sugar dosing in a fish only 400l system with sump and skimmer, nitrite zero, ammonia zero, nitrates lowish but phophates high? Fish in good health but get get green algae and red and grey/blue cyano returning so considering these tactics to save on as many water changes.

Just got the API Phosphate test kit. From another video I suspected the source of my algae problems were being created by high phosphates in my NYC tap water. That was the FIRST thing I tested and the test results were pegged at the HIGHEST level of 10 PPM which is the minimum it must have been. I tested tank water in an active 20 G long tank with lots of plants including very prolific red root floaters and only 17 neon tetras and a few snails and the reading might have been a hair less, the color wasn't quite the darkest. I then tested a friend's specially filtrated water (not RO or distilled) and got a reading of 1.0 ppm. Spring water between 2 - 5 ppm and strangely commercially distilled water was also 2.0 ppm. I'm not sure what I'm going to do unless I try various brands of distilled and/or spring water until I get a reading of 0. I'm planning on converting my tank to filterless, no change water, only top up due to evaporation and more heavily planted so if I use a Phosphate remover it will only be a one time affair, with treatment of the new bottled water as needed. I can't afford an RO system, so this is what I'm looking to do. Obviously with such high levels of phopsphates in my tap water (obviously treated for chlorine/chloramine) water changes WON'T help me, they will only hurt.

Hi Mike Would it be beneficial to run a reactor with GFO from starting up the tank or do as you say let it get to a level treat it and then maintain with GFO. Thanks mate

+Jen Rich I'd say run your tank right straight for the beginning and you shouldn't need it at all. If down the road you do need it then use it, but not at the beginning.

Swarfega Outdoor cleaner 5000ml is an oil and grease remover...are you sure you can use this on the fish tank and the fish won't be harmed?

I don't know. I wouldn't suggest it. Use white vinegar to clean it's safer
