I have that exact fan built inside a wooden box, with 6 feet of flexible aluminum ducting running from the intake to a window. And the intake is actually quite loud, but it is still loud overall.

Thanks mate, simple but effective demonstration with the cardboard box & to build a wooden box, wth 2 holes to snugly fit around the ducting going into & out of the box will retain more noise from the fan.👍

I have primaklima 350cfm inside my 5x5 led grow tent. I put it on mode 1 of 2. Carbon filter on one side and insulated ducting on the other. I can sleep next to it. Because of LED Lighting you dont have to run powerful fans anymore. As long as you have a negative air pressure inside the tent your good. Keeps the smell inside and plenty circulation. I do like that box idea. Especially with some eggfoam. Maybe ill take the fan out of the tent and test it out.

i use a 20x20x1 air conditioner return filter and the grill for mounting it installed on a plywood box with the fan inside. it filters the air and keeps the fan much quieter. I have the inside of the box carpeted. filtering the dust and mold spores out of your circulated air increases the commercial quality of your stuff exponentially as an added bonus.

you can hear the hum the speedster causes on the lowest setting. A variac is a better option it changes the voltage input instead. Worth the money and have removed that hum from 3 different brands of fans with them. hope this helps.

Yeah without getting into proper VFD/VSD drives like they use in industry, the SMSCom hybrid pro controller seems to be the Only hobbyist level fan speed controller id trust, and is a 5step transformer it clunks between and is actually a solid and very heavy piece of kit. No humming and I highly recommend them

Awesome video guy. Was debating insulated duct. What do you think about running extended duct inside the edges of tent on the floor sealed at the end with vertical slits throughout. In essense an air diffuser to better bring air throughout tent instead of just at the end of the shorter duct. Another consideration is with extended duct the intake fan weakens. So you need a stronger intake fan for the same effect as before. Finally what about reducing the intake/exhaust fans speed at lights out? Especially if the fans are bringing colder winter air in at these times.
@StAnger561to7703 жыл бұрын
Got another idea how about a coffee can insided a cardboard boxes. With something around the fan and boxes like a carpet. Or that polyfill stuff.

It' 80'x16'x24' we have a lot of windows directly toward the sun, so in the sumer it's huge hot inside! I want to change the air bettween, 10-15 minutes, so I need 2 or more fan but witch one I don't know... Before I saw your video I looking for: 2x S-1000 Vortex 1081 cfm or 2x AC infinity Cloudline T8 or Vivosun Inline 8 inch. But with you trick for noise maybe an another choice will be better... thanks

Oh, the Duct Silencers, assume they need to be of a certain length to work? Not much room to put an inflexible piece attached to the air purifying unit but how do I accurately measure the diameter and just how much room the silencers will take up? Assume I'd need them on the intake and outflow ports of the air purifier?

Thank you for the great video. Just cut holes into my furnace (professional did it not me) and attached an extremely noisy air purifier via flexible ductwork to it. The purifier attaches to the cold air return and then again to the forced air into house part of the furnace so this 3' x 20" x16" air purifier has two 10" flexible ducts attached to it and it makes so much noise we are not using it! "Housing" it doesn't sound like a good idea since it has these big ducts attached to it and I'd have to work around the big ductwork (there are no louvers or air slots in the air purifier so it can otherwise be covered up in some way. What's the best approach? The speedster sounds promising but I don't want to defeat the purpose of exchanging the house air by reducing the fan power too much (and maybe what I'd need to do for noise reduction would defeat the intended air purifying purpose). Can't really put it in a cardboard box without cutting holes in the box for the ducts. Suggestions? Thanks!!!

Hi dear Monster Grower I accidentally(stupidly) put my hand in the Aluminium outlet of my fan to insert an ONA BLOCK inside but it blocked the airflow for a small time 2-3 seconds max and it made the fan sound louder for that period of time . Now I think that the fan has got Louder while operating . is this the result of a quick outlet blockage or that blockage won't affect the fan function at all ?I would like to know if its only in my head or the fan can get damaged/louder if the outlet is blocked for couple seconds ? Thank You for considering my question

Fan should be mounted on either teaco pad or some anti vibes. There's nothing wrong with using stud as long as there's an anti vibration system in place (usually in the fans installation instructions) . Then a flexible canvas either side of the fan, connected to an attenuator/silencer. That's the only way a fan should be installed if you're worried about noise.

I have a grow tent and no fan in the tent is nearly as loud as the fan in the living room all summer or the fan above the stove or the bathroom fan. And I don't have a model built for quiet or anything else done to help. The oscillating fan is louder than the inline duct fan. And in my last apartment, I ran an 8" inline fan and no one heard it. A fan turned on that is not connected to anything sounds loud. As soon as you connect it to any kind of ducting or lights, it gets quieter since you are damping the motor sound on one side. And if you put the fan in the middle with ducting on either side, it gets pretty quiet.

Doesn't a fan heat up in a box, so it could start burning...even with that paper-material/cartonage....?
@MRBROWSER20126 жыл бұрын
Those neoprene clamps didn't work for me with an 8" ipower and filter (it leaked). Ducting on both sides of the fan is a must for that style of fan.
@MRBROWSER20126 жыл бұрын
I started with a 4" fan/filter combo kit and the filter mated fine with the fan because the fan port was tapered. Used duct tape to seal it and it worked fine but not enough CFM's for my 5X5X7.8 GG tent. So I bought the 8" fan and filter kit from Ipower. Different style ports didn't fit together well even though the vendor shows that configuration on Amazon. I had to use a few inches of ducting between the fan and filter with some 8" band clamps. Have everything hangining inside the tent with rachet cords. Vibration from the fan is completely isolated now. I was thinking about adding one of those inline sound dammpers as it's just blowing into the attic and worried my neighbor might hear the fan since my attic is level with their 2nd floor. For now I have the fan at about 1/4 speed so its probably not noticable at that speed but may want to up that speed as it gets hotter in my area.

How is the iPower working for you? Minus the compatibility, are you satisfied?

I don’t get why they used cheap “sound reduction” garbage foam that has extremely low absorption values (but it looks *cool* behind vloggers on their walls). Better off with Caruso isobond polyester which has absorption values around 1.0 for 150-5000Hz. For 6” ducting, get a foot of 8” pvc with two 6->8” adapters. Get the 1” (30mm?) isobond (or make it from magic eraser pads) and glue it to the inside wall of the 8” pipe. Assemble the ends and plug it into your blower. For sound coming out of the fan assembly itself, get a roll of dynamat and use the adhesive side to wrap around the blower excluding the controller which produces heat.

USE a variac to control the fan speed instead of promoting trash products that will not only be louder but also dangerous. Those cheaper fan controllers most of the time use light switch dimmers "repurposed" as fan controllers and sold at markup accordingly. They will make your fan HUM really loud. And that will be noticable. This clip is advetisement for this guys. TRASHY ADVICE
@joeblogs85896 жыл бұрын
You completely missed the point of insulated ducting. Also, what is the point of slowing down a powerful fan to reduce noise? May as well buy a cheaper, low-volume one then.
@I_am_not_a_bot-s6i5 жыл бұрын
Bigger fan on 1/2 power will move a lot more air than a small fan on full power and a lot quieter, air moving fast makes a lot of noise. I use a 8" hyperfan with insulated ducting in side a 1.2x1.2 tent with 10" carbon filter, you can stand next to the tent and cant hear anything. I run a 600w hps and it keeps the temps at 28c perfect. If I was to use a 6" on full even with everything else i would not beable to sleep next to it, also a bigger fan on slow setting with over sized carbon filter, you get longer carbon life iv had my filter over 2 years and the only thing you can smell are my feet lol. Trust me the cost is well worth it, smell free and silence i would not grow with out it you have to put your ear to the end of the duct to make sure it's on its that quiet. The Best, most cfm, and quietest fan on the market by far hands down. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F322308062474
