That's my reality. I'm such a perfectionist and I start to hate my self every time I do something wrong. And If I my boss ask me to do something I get nervous and anxious thinking " I can not fail". In my opinion, be pessimistic is close to be perfectionist because we always think the possibility of fail first. Your video is great. Thank you for spend your time doing something such meaningful like this.

I love how you share the pen and paper with us. How you circle things, underline things, emphasize things with lines, doodles, etc. Somehow it makes the learning more concrete. Maybe it speaks to my right brain. Thank you! I hope you'll do more like this one! :)

this information is very useful! it is motivating me to go out, not being afraid from my failure, and not feeling bad with failures in the future. i think it's a matter of perspective, and you are just helping me finding the right one, and not making a big deal out of a small failures. i am glad that I have discovered your channel and I'll be sure to check out more of your videos! This is really great! I am going to check out some of your other videos. I suffer from the need to be perfect and it has completely paralyzed me into the dreaded "comfort zone." I really need to just get better at failing and getting the most out of whatever experience comes down my path. Thanks so much! Life is about experiment and process and not about getting the golden carrot.

you didnt really cover HOW to become an optimist. I can't just flip a switch and say "oh I'm an optimist now" this is 40 years of programming into my head here.
@HeroicBrian9 жыл бұрын
Katrina Vantassel Technically I was trying to help you shift from being a perfectionist to an *optimalist* (not an optimist per se)! I hear ya on the challenges of re-wiring 40 years of programming. Definitely not going to do that in an 8.5 min video. :) Takes a TON of work, of course. Here's a little Note that I hope you will give you a little more insight into a facet of the process: cl.ly/2n3T07302x0z

Hi Brian, I hope you will get back to me. I want to watch more of your videos after I saw this video on the pursuit of perfectionism vs. optimilism. You have so many videos, I don't know where to begin. Can you lead me in the right direction. I am very interested in Positive Psychology and have been trying to incorporate ACT therapy skills into my daily life. Maybe you can tell me which videos of your I should take a look at. I really liked this one. Thanks so much for explaining it all so well!

Is it okay to be a perfectionist for my break dance training because sometimes I am out there for hours learning one move till I think it's perfect. I don't see how you can learn something and not want to strive to be "perfect", aren't those people who end up doing the most amazing things?

Hmm interesting. I tend to undulate from both but I guess I'm more an optimalist. Still scared shitless but in the right setting and direction I just go on ahead and try some things. Someone very close to me is the perfectionist...and I think he is a bad influence on me overall. Typical type a person

Ok, Brian. So, you say that an "optimalist" knows about reality. Obama was told that there was no way he was being president. Same for Beetles. Same for Michael Jordan. Same for Steve Jobs. Same for Mahatma Gandhi. Same for Thomas Edison. And you're sitting here talking about the so called "reality". Brian, I truly appreciate your willingness to help but, what you say just isn't true. Hope you read this.
@PaulHanafinMusic6 жыл бұрын
Atif Saleed evidently that wasn’t the reality as was proven by the future events. So they were more in tune with reality than the person whose ‘opinion’ you refer to. The person who said you’ll never make it was maybe more the perfectionist. They were optimalists working at getting better rather than focusing on fixed ideas like ‘you’ll never make it’ ‘you definitely will make it’. Besides, because someone said Obama wouldn’t be president - how does that confirm it as reality. It was just an opinion. They were in control of there own destiny so had more say than on outside source.
