How to Rack Mount Behringer X32 Producer with a SD16

This video shows how the X32 producer is rack-mountable. This is an ideal solution for taking the mixer on the road. In this short video, we are using a Gater rack-mount case. Some of these cases require some assembly. We cover the Gater case fully assembled and ready to go.
We are also going to put an SD16 into the rack. The combination of these two devices will give you just as many inputs and outputs as the Behringer X32. This is the second video in this Behringer series with more to come.
These videos are designed to show the basic functions of the Behringer X32 producer and they are made for people who are just starting to work with digital mixers. Many times people who cross over from analog to digital mixers find it hard to find the basic information they may need. These videos will cover the basics. Jay I just got off the phone with sweetwater they can order the mounting rails for you. Right now they seem to be the only Behringer dealer that can do this. I am going to address this in a video. To get the rails call Sweetwater. You can't order it from the website. They got to order it as a part.

Yes it should be more then enough. I have 12u and I don't need all of those. I don't know what you are planning on putting in your rack.

Would you be able to connect a snake to it and leave the connections hooked up and close the case? Our snake is in the bottom of our rack and this would save us us some time setting up.

Yes, you can do this. The top of the case will fit right over the connections for the snake.

When I got my X32 producer I purchased the TP edition. It came with the brackets and an anvil case. I would contact Sweet Water or Musician's Friend. If you don't have any luck with websites like that then you would need to contact Behringer directly and order through them. I think you should be able to get them through Sweet Water. Even though I purchased this mixer used that is where it ultimately came from.

Yes I do it all the time. There is a door in the back for the wires to run through. The door pops on and off. This allows you to put the top and front covers on.

Out of curiosity, why would you want to mount the snake on the same rack as the mixer? What's the use case in this regard?

Two reasons I mount the stage box in the case. First reason is for transport. When i go to a gig it only takes a minute to undo four screws and place the stage box where it is needed. I found that to be the best way to transport the stagebox for a live gig. The stage box does not remain in the case for live gigs. It is merely there as a means for transport. Second, In my small music studio space is limited. The X 32 producer is placed up against the wall. Every input in the back of the mixer is taken by things like keyboards, various multi effects pedals, loopers, and a few other things. When I record tracks that require a mic I just plug into the stage box in the front of the mixer because all the channels in back are taken permanently by other music gear. It is easier than plunging into the back of the mixer anytime I am recording something with a mic and it helps with storage. All my guitars are on my wall because it saves space. When I no longer needed guitar stands in the music room I found that I have freed up a bunch of space. Working in a small area forces you to think outside of the box and be creative.

Where did you get the rails for the mixer

I purchased the mixer used and it came with the rails. The guy that originally bought it only had it for about 6 months then he decided to give up his music hobby. I contacted him and asked him your question. He said that he bought the X32 producer TP which stands for touring package. Its the same x32 producer mixer but it comes with a case and within the case are the mounting brackets. They are included just in case you want to mount the mixer in a rack like the one in my video. The mixer was originally purchased through sweetwater and you may be able to get a set of mounting plates through them. If not then you will need to contact Behringer directly through the 1-800 number on their website and order them that way. Just looked it up: The Ears for Rack Mounting the X32 Producer are included with the mixer. That is what it says on Behringers Website. I have ordered it from a local supplier. We`ll see if they hold up to it.

That's a good question. My guess is this. I don't think the compact is rackmountable. The compact is a little bigger in size and the screen on the X32 Compact is bigger than the X32 producer. They are identical mixers except the producer is rackmountable and the Compact is bigger. I don't know for sure but I think this case won't work with the compact. There is an anvil case that you can buy for Compact but I don't believe you can mount it like this video shows. I am basing this off of the dimensions of the X32 compact verses the X32 Producer. I could be wrong

I see your rack has a top rack of 12U. Do you know what the smallest rack size that the X32 producer will fit on? Do you think it will fit on a similar rack with 11U instead of 12U?

I don't know what the smallest rack would be but an 11U case would work just fine. I have room to spare in my rack. You could probably go smaller than 11U if You need to. I got the TP version of the X32 producer and it came with a case without an attached rack.

It really sucks the Producer doesn't have Scribble Strips. Makes that model almost useless in my opinion. I wanted to replace my 7+ year old full-size X32 with a Producer and put it in a rack for easier transport, faster setup, smaller footprint, and just replace my X32 because it's getting old and I want to replace it before something catastrophic finally lets go. But I basically have to upgrade to the M32R if you want this size but also want the scribble strips, which is too bad. In the long term I think it'll be a good thing, but in the short term it's a bummer there's no "real" rackmountable X32 solution.

I agree, but that is the reason the X32 producer is so much cheaper when compared to the X32. The good news is the scribble script function is still available in the app that runs on your PC so even though the feature is not found on the producer you still have access to it through the PC. I find that I use the app when recording more than making adjustments from the board.

It's not completely useless at that location. It all depends on the situation. I am using this in a small home recording studio, not on stage. I have many things already plugged into the back of my mixer such as keyboards, guitar effects, etc. When I want to record a track using a mic I just plug into the stage box even though I have 2 spare channels left in the back of the mixer. It's easier and faster when I am recording multiple tracks or when more people join in a jam session. I have limited space and this is an easy solution. I don't use this mixer for live performance and there is no stage to put the "Stage Box" on. It works for me although it might not work in your situation. If I should ever need to use it in a live situation then 4 screws hold it in place. It only takes a minute to pull from the rack.
