I usually do this or some version of this on every bike I own. My preferred mod is BMX bars because they raise the handlebars about 8 inches. Schwinn Ultra Wide Cruiser seat. I put both of my brakes on the right side since I lost use of my left hand. The problem with raising handlebars a lot is you often need to replace the shifter and brake cables so they are longer and that takes a fair amount of time and sometimes some careful ordering so you get long enough parts. I notice your bike had coiled up extra cable. That's nice. BTW where can I get that stuff you wrapped the cables in and what do you call it?
@JohnSmith-mc1ck4 жыл бұрын
Bull horns. turn them up and slightly back, put hand gripes on them. Use it 90% of the time, going down to the bar for braking and handlining ruff trails. If you want them even higher like I do, use a combination of what you did and the bull horns. I'm an old Hippy and I can't get high enough. THIS WORKS!

I went with a much taller model on my bike. Ran into a few issues like brake lines and wiring not long enough. After rerouted, I was good to go. Night and day difference!! I really noticed less pressure on my wrists and hands as well. These still bother me and am considering different handlebars with a different bend to them. But the riser helped a ton.

I have a sore back from riding but I'm not ready to lose my preferred aggressive riding position. I'm running 12lbs in my fat tires, have a rigid frame, seat post shock but I still like to believe my sore back is from the jolts. I'm averaging 15-20 miles a day, 7 days a week. Oh well, gotta pay to play, or in my case, go completely car-less!

@christopherjohnson88734 жыл бұрын
I'm interested to know if this works on a 2020 Rad Rover as well. What is the length of the stem? Original Rover stem is 50 mm + 30º (15 mm rise)
@corymiller82064 жыл бұрын
Kyle, in your lab, design and build an 'adjustable on-the-fly stem' kinda like to the dropper seat post. I realize this may call into question stability, but on road mostly users may get away with it.

Great video there is one issue you didn't cover I ordered an adjustable stem proceeded with replacement and holy behold it was 1/16 of an inch less thickness than the originals stem and guess what would not clamp properly for obvious reasons so I highly suggest ordering a spacer kit.
@johnf33264 жыл бұрын
Great idea but they only fit 1-1/8" standard tubes. Giant bikes have 'overdrive' steering tubes 1-1/4" and can you heck find one to fit that! I did alter mine using a scooter extender collar clamp and tube bought from ebay. Had to buy an extra long bolt to fit in the star nut too. Raised my bars 3" that way. Stupid you can adjust the seat post but not the bars on new bikes!

Not... even... close. I just got my eBike that says it's for up to 6'4". I'm 6'3", 54 and surprise! not in great shape. I suppose someone 6'4" could ride it but not comfortably. And definitely not with proper leg extension. I had to drop the seat way down like I'm riding a child's bike and there is still way too much pressure on my hands and arms and I can't see great. Have you done a video on stem risers, extenders? I'd really appreciate that. By they way, aside from being terribly uncomfortable... it's a lot of fun!

I see these adjustable stems a lot these days but there is definitely a better option. You can go on Amazon and buy an actual steam riser and it connects to the fork steer tube. You would then just connect your handlebar stem to it. It comes in two different sizes typically. One will give you 4 inches of height and the other one can give you 7 inches of height. Also you could add this wonky adjustable handlebar stem if you wanted to get even more height.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
