Most people in the comments are missing the point saying never do that… If you are the one with the good credit and you want to help someone out by adding them as a Authorized User, then do that and just DONT GIVE THEM A CARD OF THEIR OWN. They don’t need it, all you wanna do is help their credit by giving them credit history. So you continue to make your same payments and both of you benefit. Charge them like $500+ one time if you want for letting them on but it’s not going to hurt you if you never give them a card to fk up. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Basics 101. Also that person achieves a new account without a hard inquiry, it will possibility change length of credit, possibly lower CCU “credit card utilization”. Please be advised when doing this only use someone with 100% payment history and under 10% usage and preferably at least 10 years with that credit card for best results.

It doesn’t transfer all their previous credit history. It just begins building it for the authorized person at that point according to the account holders actions.

Exactly and I never tell people to start as a authorize user. You have better chances of establishing your own credit with a secured credit card or even better a auto loan if they can afford it.

This is true! However, not all cards will be from the life or the entire payment history of the person who owns the card. American Express will not transfer the payment history, they will do an inquiry on the authorized user and the credit utilization will start at the time of you being approved and added to the card. The positive, it will help your utilization. The negative for American Express, it will take two years to no longer be considered as a new account. Yeah because the available credit & history on the card probably didn’t outweigh the negative stuff on your credit. Clean your credit before adding positive lines.

Exactly you need to pay off collections if you have some or if you past sue on loans get current because you need positive credit to start rebuilding. I did a video talking about this because there is a big gap in not providing that information to the public.

To ensure it doesn't impact your account negatively, all you have to do is have the AU's card mailed to you, not to the AU. That way, you don't have to worry about them making any charges to your account and they can still benefit.

Question here, my mom has bad credit, she added me as an authorized user to her credit card. A couple of days ago, I just got my own credit card with a $1,000 credit limit. Should I be removed as an authorized user from her credit card? I don't want her credit history to hurt me. Typically there score will drop some due to the age and the utilization. Some reporting agencies leave the account on and some remove it. I always recommend removing some one after they have opened and created some credit of their own.
