I never really thought of coming up with a cadence. And then turning that cadence into lyrics. Great strategy! My friend would always tell me we must always stay teachable. Im great at writing lyrics, rhyme scheme is out of this world but I am horrible at figuring out how to fit the lyrics into beats properly. Plus I tend to just not want to use simple rhymes. Like trying to rhyme gravitational forces or something.

Honestly I am grateful to have found this channel, as I took a hiatus from making music following my graduation in highschool and heading into post-secondary, I found writing essays 24/7 left me a bit dull in terms of substance delivery etc whenever I attempted to create a song here and there. Coming back to the hobbie after a while left me rusty and I must say these videos are extremely informative and I love your energy when providing explanations, do you happen to do beat making tutorials or know a channel that is simillar to yours (in the sense that the way the info is conveyed is well appealing)? This video was really good. It's intense and complex. I have some questions. For someone that is stronger with writing and not as technical musically, how do you figure this out? It's really hard to get some of this. You explain it great, but I'm struggling with a few things. When writing lyrics does the end of the verse have to hit on the 4th beat? How do you figure out the syllables to match each beat? So much goes into rap I had no idea. You are covering a lot of great topics. Keep it up.
@ColeMizeStudios9 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks so much! :) Good questions! Technically the end of the verse is the last part of your verse before the hook comes in. You're referring to the end of your bar or measure. I know what you mean but just wanted to clarify just in case someone else reading was confused :) No, your lyrics don't have to end on the 4th beat of each bar. However It's good practice to have the rhyme that's apart of your rhyme scheme on the 4th beat. This is simply because the kick typically falls on the 1st and 3rd beat and the snare on the 2nd and 4th beat. So these are high energy parts of the measure and they give your lyrics that extra boost when rapped on top of them. The main trick to getting the right syllable count is to already have a cadence that your going for before you begin writing. This will actually help guide you a lot when writing. So if the cadence you're shooting for happens to have 12 notes per measure you will know that you need to come up would 12 syllables to match it. If you end up using more or less syllables you can simply slightly adjust your cadence accordingly to accommodate it. The cadence just gives you guidance on what you're trying to achieve and you can continue tweaking it along the way. I cover this a lot in past videos and will continue to make videos about them in the future. I hope this helps you out. Thanks so much for all the support! and let me know if you have anymore questions! You keep up the great work as well! :)

can your rhymes off beat count 2 and 4? which are where the snares hit as long as the tempo of your flow stay consistent a line to another?
@ColeMizeStudios8 жыл бұрын
I believe what you may be referring to is adding swing to your flow which I discuss in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3WsqoltaNaUh6M I may be misunderstanding you tho lol but yes keep your flow consistent from one line to another to create a pattern. You can create your rhyme schemes anywhere within the bar just try to keep the pattern going for at least one other bar. I hope one of these responses answered your question. lol If not let me know. I'm not sure if it's free anymore, but I currently recommend Reaper over Studio One. It's cheaper, more stable, faster, and much more customizable. And you can make good quality songs in any DAW. Thanks for making this! I'm embarrassed to say that after 3 years, I still can't write structured lyrics, so I'll try practising with your sheets and see how it goes!

+ColeMizeStudios How can I identify what beat do the words fall on? I can't seem to catch the word while thinking about the beat and how can I apply this method while writing?

Not gonna lie, this structure thing is kinda putting me off rapping. I guess I was always under the impression that you could do this by just writing what you want/feel at any moment, not like I'm in English class. This is really simple and easy to follow, props for the tutorial. Definitely not hating. I guess I'm not much of a musician. I just write stuff down that rhymes and I try to make as much sense as possible while following a story or subject. I guess what I'm saying, is that this really takes the fun out of rapping for me. I can't do this. Is it possible to not do this and still be fine as a rapper? Or is rapping just not for me?
@alechaynes14638 жыл бұрын
Just rap for fun, and try to improve on the way. If you question whether you should keep doing it then that might mean you don't like it. You don't have to prove yourself to anybody if that is the reason why your tryin to get good.

Good question, what you're talking about concerning "just writing down what you feel at the moment" is perfectly fine. However if you want it to go with music then it needs to be structured in musical time. This lesson is teaching you how it's done but you don't have to write your lyrics using these sheets if you don't want to. I created these as a tool to help people document how their lyrics fits to the music. As I always say, learn all you can and forget it! Don't ever let knowledge handicap you or tie you down because it can kill your creativity if you develop the notion that you have to follow rules every time you want to create. These techniques are tools for you to get the job done and in rapping there are no rules only techniques. It's all about having fun and expressing yourself! Hope this helps. damn it's funny. I've been well....living music theory whole life. it's funny how you try to start something new and you think you know nothing but you know more than you think. This kinda made me realize why my "flow" was always sloppy, because I never tapped my feet like I do when I play piano. time signature doesn't change when you convert to a new style of music, although it does take time getting used to because you're tackling it differently. it's no wonder why it seems like people who've been rapping their wholes lives seem to have good lyrics that seem to fit perfectly. it's because the rhythm is second nature and they can just focus on delivery etc. thanks for the refresher

You hit the nail on the head bro! I couldn't agree more! Music theory travels over into anything else having to do with music even the way dancers come up with dance routines. Their moves are basically doing the same thing rappers do while dancing around the beat with their words. It's really cool! Glad you're enjoying my videos and thanks for chiming in! Much respect! :) - Cole Mize

ColeMizeStudios Man, thanks so much for doing this video Cole. its funny last week i drew the exat same rap sheet, when i was studying other peoples lyrics and messing around with my lyrics, i remembered your last cadence class and i did the same thing about putting the vowels right on the beat but i didn't quite entirely get the idea until i watched this video today - its funny too because something at the back of my mind was like, check coles video today. Btw i am pretty sure you already have it lined up later, a video sometime the different kinds of song structures, you know -intro-bridge-hook-verse-chorus-verse-outro e.t.c you know how to build a song and mess around the different structures, but it definitely depends on the beat but yea, if not add that to your to make list :D totally interested in watching :D

Michael Michuki That's crazy man lol! Yeah I try to make my videos in the order I feel people should learn in. And it's crazy you made that suggestion about doing a video on song structure because that's what the video is going to be about this week lol Feel free to drop anymore video suggestions that you may have cause you are on point! lol Thanks for all the feedback and support. I'm glad that my videos have been helping you out!
