Excellent video. I had previously just reinstalled Ledger live after a Windows re-install. I realised that I should not have to reset the device but was puzzled when my original accounts did not show up in Ledger Live. This video made clear what was going on. One thing I perhaps could add is that I found that instead of manually re-adding the details of the original accounts, I found that I could restore these by copying the files from a back up of \AppData\Roaming\Ledger Live\ to the equivalent folder overwriting the files created by the Ledger Live install.

Hi CryptoDad. I have a question, somewhat unrelated. I installed Ledger Nano S on a new laptop. I hooked up my Ledger as usual and am now trying to add Flare accounts to find my air drop tokens. How did you add so many accounts of the same Crypto? You have multiple BTC accounts with zero balances. When I try to add Flare accounts to find my air drop tokens it tells me I cannot add another Flare account because there are no tokens in the first account? I've reached out to the Ledger Live Support team but haven't gotten an answer yet. They tell me that I should be able to add more Flare accounts but the pulldown (when I click on add accounts and type in Flare) only shows one. There is one requiring you dowload Polygon. Any suggestions? I feel like I'm missing something. Thanks so much for your help. I have subscribed to your channel.

After Ledger Live reset you should be at a blank account screen. It does not completely wipe ledger live off your computer. It simply deletes every single account that you had in there before. now you need to attach your device and start adding accounts again make sure you have the device attached, And you have your pin entered. Go to the accounts section on the left and choose add account. You can start with bitcoin in the pulldown menu. Click continue and it will scan your device for your bitcoin accounts and will offer you the option of adding them with tick boxes choose the accounts you wish to add and click continue, you should see your bitcoin account now. Continue doing this same process again with the next crypto that you had in there for example, Ethereum after you have done this process for all of your crypto’s, you should see all of your accounts restored.

Your help is so greatly appreciated. Ledger should have this process take just a few clicks, crypto isn't going to get widespread adoption when the wallets are so clunky and hard to understand. It shouldn't be a 50 step process to install ledger on a new laptop or phone.

Yeah it’s weird that they don’t force you to create one anymore. You can go to settings in Ledger Live and turn on password lock. Then it will ask you to create one

Just reread this thread. If you’re just reinstalling Ledger Live on a new computer, your leisure device should retain the original pin that you created. Unless of course you reset the device. But just moving an existing device to a new computer should still require the pin that you originally created. In order to unlock the device

14:12 So, why did the nano not have the Ethereum and Litecoin apps installed? If it has Ethereum and Litecoin wallets inside it, then is *must* have the corresponding apps too, no? Because you need the app first before you can create the wallet. I might be misunderstanding something. Also, what exactly did you mean by "dilemma" here? It looks like you did the exact same thing as with the previous device: you wanted to manage a particular crypto, so you just went and installed the required app. Sounds like the same procedure. What was different exactly?

In answer to your first question, not necessarily. The corresponding apps do not need to be installed for the wallets to be there. I know that sounds weird. They just needed to have been there at one point in the past. Once a wallet has been created and funded, the ledger will always remember it. But it's not actually remembering it. It is simply recreating it from its master private key. I think what I was trying to demonstrate here was that the older Ledger Nano S did not have room for a whole lot of apps. And so you had to shuffle them on and off to access your various accounts. So basically you can install an app, create a wallet, and then delete the app. And if at any point in the future you reinstall that app, it will access the exact same wallet. Because the master private key of the device will always create the exact same wallet every time. The master private key is used to generate the subkeys for each crypto wallet and it's deterministic. It doesn't just create wallets randomly. It creates them based on a specific pattern. But that pattern is based on your unique randomly-generated master private key. The "dilemma" that I was referring to was that the ledger nano s does not have enough room to hold all of the apps for all of the cryptos said I was managing. That's why I was demonstrating the fact that you have to delete some to reinstall others (shuffle apps). The newer legend Nano S Plus has a lot more room and you don't have to go through all this shuffling to manage multiple cryptos.

i am thinking a security issue. Let's say I pick up a ramdon Ledger device,then install the Ledger Live in a PC., then hook up this device, i can get all funds from this device? Cause When you re -install the ledger , it seems like it wiped out all previous information and password. So, when you re logged into the device, it did not ask any permission. ( in the end , they asked you to re set a new password though)

You still need to know the pin for the random device. It’s highly unlikely you’re going to be able to guess the pin. You only get three tries and then the device resets. So no it’s not a security risk
