Why throw out a partially used tube of caulking? Here's an easy way to save and reseal the end of a caulking tube and still be able to re-use it months later. Re-seal and save money instead of throwing out a partially used tube.It can be saved and re-sealed over and over until depleted. Caulking can be re-used months later.

I've been reluctant to open mine because I only need a little of it and planning to use it when I have more to use it for. This saved me the worry. BTW the nearest hardware is like 40km and I don't have any means of transpo so I always buy everything I'll be needing in the future when I have the time to go there. Thanks a lot.

Brilliant. The problem with just putting a cap on the tip is that air is still in the nipple which will harden the silicone inside. Your solution sees to it that this does not happen. Nicely done sir! Of all of the "save a tube of caulk" videos I just watched this one was the best. Elegant solution!
@Rondogardener

I have tried everything, and the best way to seal a tube is to purchase a red wire nut from the hardware store. It works perfectly for latex for very extended periods and is also the best for silicon. I have found, however, that the silicon carrier is so volatile that even an unopened tube can go bad within a year or so.

Just add the simple easy route without having to use all these weird gadgets and things or whatever to seal the tube all you have to do after you're done using what you're about to use is, press the caulk gun just enough to where some of the silicone or whatever it is comes out the tip of the tube and then with that itself will seal the tip of the tube giving you time to use it again without it drying up and when your ready to use it just remove that excess that's left up there on the tip and there you go! You're welcome...

The best way to keep the whole of the calking fresh is to dunk the whole tube with tip first into a bucket of water,put all you liquid nails and silicone tip first in a bucket of water,it will remain fresh until you need it again,just keep topping up the water,if it evaporates,from tim to time.

Here save your fingers. Cut the end of the tube off,on a slight angle. Cut no more than you have to to squeeze out caulk. After you are done, take a sixteen sinker(spike) and stick it in the hole. The hole should be small enough to hold the sinker. Leave enough of the nail sticking out to get a grip on it to pull it out. Then go a head a use it, replacing the nail when you are done. Been doing this way for fifty years.

I use a little piece of foil tape. same stuff you would use on a bathroom vent hose. I usually keep a roll in the garage with the rest of the adhesives. works great. just slice it off with a razor when you want to use it. one slice length wise down the tape. You only need a small piece and you can save your gloves for painting :)

@@Voyager23B If I'm going to reuse the tube in a day or two, I'll just dispense a bit of caulk from the nozzle and leave it. Seems to seal the tube well enough for short periods of time. If I don't know when I'll use it again or know it'll be a few weeks, I'll endure the tedious and time consuming task of plugging in the glue gun. I realize I'll never get those 3 seconds of my life back but I figure that's better than throwing away a $6+ tube of partially used caulk 6 months later when I go to use it again.
