I just tested it and @alexnguyen6631 is right! It was hard to notice with 2 webs but once you stack 3-4 it really shoot up the HPS. I will get some footage and add this to my next video since this is great info! Definitely will change the way I play Peni too.

I've watched 3-4 Peni overviews over the last couple of days and this is the most comprehensive, most helpful one because it revolves around real strategies and specifically highlights what makes Peni special (and the accidental discovery of this is what inspired me to figure out why I'm the only one playing like this). It's incredible stuff once you crack the code, and this video is the only one I've seen that really tries to drive that point home. Peni is *not* supposed to be played "like a tank", but rather more like a high-HP ambush ninja. As a Cloak and Dagger main myself, I think Peni's value shines best when you play her more like a pissed off "Daggerless Cloak" - eg: Only pops into the open in response to an sudden enemy vulnerability when capable of causing the most disruption, otherwise quietly doing work in the midline by reminding the enemy to stay back 'or else'. Those who've mastered C&D know what I mean here. When you're at your most effective, you're also at your most vulnerable and visa versa - and yet you're also simultaneously also far more dangerous in that moment than the enemy realizes (or even admits) until it's too late. Strategically, it often plays out like some kind of ridiculous anime trope - seriously. The enemy spars and jabs, thinks to themselves, "Ah-ha, I've got you now!" They finally square up and full-commit, only realizing a second too slow that Cloak/Peni is actually *smirking* about all this - "bro, wtf?" - a mere split second before the jaws of the trap slam shut. They try to fight, just makes it worse. They try to run, just makes it worse. Done right, you'll honestly sometimes see people just... Stop attacking, even before it's over-over, just like a wild animal does when it knows it's done for. Peni ain't a spider, yo. She's a god damned **Ant Lion** (if you don't know what that is, look it up - trust me, it'll change your whole perspective on Peni's gameplay and explain exactly what I'm talking about here). Subbed. If he's got this kind of eye for nuance and mold-breaking with a character like this, other strategy breakdowns are going to be just as awesome.

@@UnbearablyOnline I described the relationship poorly (because youtube comment), but I'm sure you know what I mean more than I even implied. It's the same balance of unexpectedly switching suddenly from offense/defense in response to the state of the battle, and the fact that you're most vulnerable to death while you're most capable of causing it. It's great stuff. Out of all the characters, Peni and Cloak/Dagger seem to have the greatest depth, highest number of options, and best capability to shine as long as the player gets "creative". Those who manage to play them like an artform will find themselves getting shoutouts in match-chat frequently (friend or foe).

Nice video. A small addition: your right-click (cyber-web snare) also eats/blocks all projectiles it flies into. A Punisher down the hallway using his ult on you; shoot your web at him to block a good chunk of his bullets and zip away. The most delicious are Ironman ults, though. 😉 And a little addition: If you turn off 'hold to wall climb' you can just stop and cling to any wall to chill.

Would love to see your preferred nest placements! Some Peni's get so caught up on "this being the ONLY place to put them", I'm a firm believer in the fact that you need at least 2/3 different spots for each choke point so you can mix it up once red team finds/destroys our sacred spider volcano.

Watching this as a pen I main and I’d say you did good covering the basics. One thing to mention, ALWAYS SET THREE on doors behind you, outside of webs to give false sense of security after they are shot, and remember it is easier to web wolverine AFTER HE CARRIES away then before lol. Web, mine and melee Wolverine in that order. Also if you web yourself and stay attacked, you still have small healing even when you do not stand directly on it. And then can evacuate back to that area if jumped.

I'm a Loki main and only made it to Gold 3 for the skin but have tried to learn Penni and can say thanks to this do realize have been playing her slightly wrong. i mained her in my first week playing. shes my go to pick on defense. shes so strong when unchecked and unbothered. i can easily carry most of my games on her but some i cant. i truly try my best on all modes with her but sometimes it feels like i just cant do enough to cover my team. im definitely going to be more intentional with setting more traps. this was a great guide.

exactly she s situational; the main web is useful in certain maps and in defense only; and the problem is not the trap if u aim well u can target and kill a healer/flanker at +30meters with mines without any hidden trap

I can relate to that. Often I feel I'm carrying a not very good team with her. Playing as the sole tank while putting out high damage and good survivability. Even if we have low skill healers. But... there are games where it feels like she can't carry a really bad team. She's just not mobile enough, dps isn't high enough and she needs time to set. Some games It'll be 5v1 every time and I'm wondering what everyone else is doing. Not sure which heroes can carry in that situation. But peni especially can't really get out when out numbered. She needs atleast some team mates.

Some games the other team is just working together really well and our team may not have the same cohesion. I feel also since certain hero's in rivals are direct counters to other hero's so my team comp might just be losing because 1 or 2 of your players are being shut down. (Like a decent Namor makes most Spiderman players useless) Ideally people would switch off in these cases... but you know how it goes.

Great video! About time Peni gets some love. After every YTer put her in C or D rank last season. Was great to see their jaws drop when the official stats came out. Some ideas for future Peni content - how to deal with Wolverine, other Peni's, how to get set up in Dominion games. How to travel fast from spawn to objective. I particularly need to know how to work with the healers. Because my instinct is to run in there, put down the best nest i can think of, and go from there. But often she does need those healers to keep her alive. Perhaps more defensive locations works best sometimes.

I'd like to add a couple things, but I only made Plat 2 in S0, so take my advice with a grain of salt. 1. I like to occasionally lob 3-4 mines at the enemy back line. In the confusion, their healers often hit them, sometimes even dying. 2. Recall your nest when you can. It won't regen health, and the more health it's missing, the longer the cooldown is, so recall it and redeploy as needed. 3. Your zip line will snap you back if still attached. You can set it behind cover and fight in the open, and when you let the controls go, snap back to safety. 4. Drop more mines, lol.

It depends on the situation imo. Your mines can be killed in midair, but usually if you make sure the place your launching the mines has a web then most of them should make it. I sometimes send a right click web towards the backline and then try to get 3-4 mines into it. I wouldnt recommend using them between left click attacks since you really only want to use your mines when you can make sure 3-4 of them are together.

Defense Peni is a menace.. some choke points are so much easier to defend with a Peni on the team. IMO her defense on the first point on Klyntar seems almost unfair.

If this is a penny channel can you explore Penny ambush playstyle? I am not really a ranked player but on quickmatches I often find fun in a penny that drops from the ceiling. If you set the hold to wall climb setting you can climb a wall halfway and cling there, allowing you to rain mines and webs if you drop down its a really low reward playstyle but I often do it when there are no healers or I have been isolated as you can shoot a web at a wall and cling to it. I call it ambush but realistically, it's me hiding like a house spider in vertical maps like neo-tokyo and Klyntar halls. When they overpush I back cap point, if they fall back I block their retreat with mines and nest.

Do you have any tips for when your team insists on 1-3-2 comp and forces you to solo tank? I was Diamond in s0 but with this rank reset, I've run into so many teams that kick me off peni and that really sucks when I know I have positive winrate with her setups on certain maps.

I think 1-3-2 can work with Peni on defense by having a good position with your nest and letting the DPS focus on getting picks while you focus on pushing back the enemy tanks and divers. But when you are on offense her role of defending the backline as you push doesn't work without a solid frontline to actually push forward and take space. Maybe if your DPS pop off and get a solo pick or two. (which doesn't happen as often in ranks like plat and up.) I switch to play Dr. Strange when things like this come up, but other tanks like Magneto or Groot can also work as solo tanks based on who you prefer playing.

Stun for precise/ long range placements. Movement for extending close to your nests or if you can move forward without being out of position (after you win a fight.)

idk if im using the ult right but i usually go for area denial instead of damage or force a ult i drop the nest and run over the point, the bots usually don't do much damage but its enough to kill any enemy that tries to stay on the point

Very well done video. Good commentary and strong advice. I think I stumbled on the efficiency of Peni's mines when I was try to work on my accuracy. Then test it in arcade mode, sure enough during season 0 she was my main at the time. Do you have a game id for that match that they fortified in?

Great video but staying with your healers isn’t a great tip for low elo and quick matches cause most of the time your team is dumb and pick no tanks or the tank doesn’t know he’s supposed to stay inside the freaking area they’re supposed to! So the high mobility of the web pull helps you dive the supports or get to the area quickly to start laying traps

Peni my favoriye hero in a game. Love protect my teamates, make space and spawn traps for enemy fresh spawn. But also I hate some bugs and web Aiming by Peni: -Sometimes Web (F) don't swing you to place, instead it back you to previous position -Sometimes it's teleports you after few delay (like 1sec) and it's confuse in chaotic fights.. -Swing from ultimate sometimes cann't hit close to your face enemies, it's so stupid. I'm big Mech hero, when Peter Parker can hit with his F oponents in 5m Sphere. WTF. -Web (F) can aim floor, instead shoot to far (20m~) wall. Died so many times because of this. -You can get visual Shield from your ultimate, but then rcv stun and it's break cast. It's confuse me. -Nest once per match cann't be placed in you aim. You see yellow pre-model, but click just not work. Oh. And detach useless vs knocback in most cases.
