Her most personally valuable appearance for me was on Bill Maher's original show on which she was asked, "What are you reading these days, Fran?" She recommended "Oedipus at Stalingrad" by Gregor von Rezzori. Turned out to be not just a fine novel but Rezzori's best, since I've read almost everything else of his. "The Death of My Brother Abel" had other virtues, though.

What Lena Dunham was saying- I wish I could have heard all of that conversation...it's divorce or get rid of the books- I agree with Fran, I had to throw out, in anger, because I would normally donate it and even donation bothers me- my books are tantamount to a part of me- I feel better about "reading rubbish"- but I am a book snob- how "low" would Fran stoop, could she empathize, enjoy Harlequins! ( NO HATE MAIL IF YOU LOVE HARLQUINS- MAYBE YOU LOATHE POETRY- A FAVORITE GENRE OF MINE and Fran is right about, becoming empathetic and READ HER BOOKS, HER BOOKS ARE HILARIOUS AND PITHY- love that quote, makes perfect sense too bad it's too long for a frig magnet or as Good Advice on Lame Shirts...the late, astute, INHO,NGEORGE CARLIN ONCE SAID OF TEE SHIRTS WITH SLOGANS (gimmicky) WHY WOULD YOU WEAR ONE, EXPECTING PEOPLE TO READ WHAT'S ON IT WHEN NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU'RE SAYING- I slightly misquoted- not the meaning, just exact wording, George was ranting about The Stupis and Their Extended Family, ie too many of us who have perhaps the greatest/best opportunity since Noah and The Flood, to become "educated" maybe even WISE- AND FRIGGING LEARN HOW TO SPELL, SPEL- 2 l's not 1 grrr) Just saying, Namaste

Reading can get boring quick, though. After the first few hundred books there doesn't seem such new. After a couple thousand it doesn't seem worth the time anymore. I haven't read much in years.

It depends on if someone reads one genre or multiple like myself. I’ve read around 500 books in the past 5 years and still see reading as a main hobby. They don’t get boring if you surround yourself with different genres, authors, and time periods. That just me, though others may disagree which is fine as well

@@BooksToAshes It's just personal. I've read thousands of books of all sorts of genres, and I'm pretty bored of reading.
