Great tutorial. Should have commented on how to find the middle of the pattern (arrow markings on pattern) and middle of you fabric by either: 1. folding 2x to get center, or 2. measuring and basting the horzontal/vertical lines

Should have used a darker thread for demo and more close up of work 🤔

This makes so much more sense now. I received a "beginners kit" as a gift. The instructions are lacking, looked through several "ultimate beginners guides" and they have lacked how to read a pattern. I can't start my stitches if I literally don't know where to start or how to read the pattern. Why are so many instructions lacking basic information and calling it a beginner guide?

Maybe it's must me, but I an attracted to every craft that requises yarn and treads. I learned knitting as a teen and then I got crochet in my recommendation a few years ago and I learned. And now, Sims 4 has introduced me to cross-stitching and here I am looking to learn the basis before I buy the materials... Again.

How do you know it is the middle? No demonstration on how to determine that. It would be a nightmare to count every little space or strand to find the center?
@Kjersten_w
@Kjersten_w 2 жыл бұрын
You dont have to find the exact middle of the fabric, just your best guess. You can use a ruler if needed, but it doesn't need to be perfect, as long as you have extra space on all sides.
@Kjersten_w

Or instead of a ruler, you can fold it in half each way and mark it

Hello! Some simple questions, do I tie a knot at the end of the thread to stop it coming through the back? And how to I finish a piece of thread when it gets to the end of a colour or piece of thread? Ta
@bevmacmillan8815
@bevmacmillan8815 3 жыл бұрын
I found a couple of KZbin videos on how to start and finish without a knot. A knot will make it bulky on the back and may show through the fabric.

When it says use 1 strand do you thread the needle so that it becomes 2 (half the length)? Eg. 2 strands = 4 threads? Thanks.

Interesting tutorial and I learned some things. But I still can't work out how to move between rows - eg if the last stitch in my row has nothing above it do I have to tie off the thread and start again? Or perhaps I should have started the row from the other end? Also, not sure why there is a colour and black and white version of the pattern (is there a reason?). And finally, should I be marking off the pattern when I've done stitches so I don't get lost? All these things are probably easy for experienced stitchers but they're confusing to newcomers.

Hey there and thanks so much for your comment- that means a lot to us. There are many different approaches to crafting and techniques can vary from crafter the crafter. If you have nothing above the stitch you can always just cut the thread and then restart or as you suggested, there might be ways to calculate where the thread might end up if you start at a certain point. There is really no right or wrong and also depends on how much importance you put on what the reverse looks like as well as how much thread you have available. Many patterns are shown in black and white to show the symbols which might be easier for some crafters and in colour because others might find reading colour coded patterns easier. And yes absolutely- when you have finished parts of the pattern you can always colour it in or cross it out, whatever works best for you :) If you have any more questions, please feel free to reach out to our team via our Helpcentre on our website! We are super happy to help🥰

do you use a new thread when you start in the next row? or are you using the same piece of 18’ thread? sorry if it’s a silly question 😅
@lovecraftscom
@lovecraftscom 29 күн бұрын
Not a silly question at all.🥰❤️ You can use the same thread until it gets too short to work with or until the pattern ( if you are working on one) calls for another colour :)

Use the graph paper lines on the pattern. On the fabric you can use a ruler or fold it and mark the centre.
