When the jockey mounts their horse, the horse should perk up as soon as they get on! Another sign, that horse is ready to go! Great tips!

Body language is what got me hooked on horse racing. I noticed many signs in body language that has proved reliable to this day. I could cite examples, Proud Truth, being one that stood out, but it is best to keep my thoughts to myself. I do communicate with the horses, study their behavior and demeanor to see if the horse is confident or just in the race to run around the track. Horses know what is going on, are often repeaters, which is why they are so predictable. However, if drugged by unscrupulous people, it is the drug talking and not the horse!

That's great Janet. I wonder if horse watching and studying their behavior is becoming a lost art. Keep practicing that special skill and learning how to read these beautiful animals!

Where a horse sweats is the important thing. If he sweats over his shoulders it's no problem. If he sweats between his hind legs, it's a classic danger sign. Also the head movement is important. Horses may be "on edge" and looking nervous and angry. These two factors are what should put you off a horse. Be careful though about this on a very warm day, when any horse can be expected to sweat more than usual.

There is definitely something to it. I took my daughter who is one of the most animal intune people I've ever seen to a race with me and she enjoyed going to the paddock before the races. Well she commented on 2 horses out of the 8 races saying that horse is gonna win. She never looked at the drf. One of the horses was a first time starter. Both of her horses won by a considerable margin.

Body language seems to work better in 2 & 3yr old races, stakes races, and mdn/mdn turf races. It’s analogous to how young kids & teens are more expressive when they’re feeling good or bad than older adults are. Think about it. Older adults may not feel well but still muddle through to get the job done. Kids are more likely to quit or run off on their own. Body language is much less useful in races for established claimers and allowance/opt clmg races. I didn’t learn body language on my own but from guys at the track who made money doing it. Horses that look good on paper tend to be underlays (everybody sees it) and horses that look great in the paddock can often be overlays. Consider combining them in same-race exotics. Just my two bits... (In my humble opinion, Shackleford is a bad example to use-an exception to the rule b/c he was known for being a sweaty, bad actor- his norm)

I would take a friend of mine to pimlico and Laurel when we needed some quick cash. I did the numbers handicapping and she did the body language. Always paid... ALWAYS!!!! Horse people know when a horse is ready or not. Find one to take to the track and tell me different.

Its called using the force. Ive looked at an felt in my gut who was gonna win. Intuition we all have it. Even yourself i can bet you scrolled down a form to the race an a name just pops out at you an boom she or he wins an you say wow thats funny. Sometimes Intuition is all it takes. Learning to pay attention to it is hard tho. Its the worse when you know its gonna happen but if you cancel a bet the bet you cancel comes in an not being intact with Intuition cost you.. Lol

I agree with horses body languege. You mentioned when a horses head is bowed, I refer to it as a knight on a chess board, the neck is bowed and downward. he might be dancing too. whats your advice whena horse take a dump prior to a race? I think itsa bad sign...
@Weekendhandicapper7 жыл бұрын
Oh the ole dump debate. Yes some believe that if a horse drops a load on the track before it races signals that it is relaxed. Others will say that it means they are stressed. As a horseplayer i am trying to find every edge and angle I can get. Once upon I actually kept track of how those horses ran and most if not all didnt win so I wouldn't use that as a positive factor. I liked your Knight on a chess board analogy. That's exactly what it is. Perfect image! Thanks for the comment.
@kenhamasaka25247 жыл бұрын
Some trainers will feed a horse to close to the race and thus....the dump on the track. It is also a way for horses to establish territory AND re-seed their paddock.
@deja_vu..3 жыл бұрын
I think it's like ppl. You eat veggies, then you walk around and you have to go to the bathroom, then you're energized. But too many horses do it to keep track of it.

I bet Barbaro AFTER all the other stupid bets I thought were money. My $5bet covered my losses from those other donkeys. His head was up ears pricked... Eyes wide open nostrils flared like he was looking for a fight.... Or a race.
@bennyc92655 жыл бұрын
I bet against Barbaro (RIP) in the Preakness b/c his Beyer fig jump in the Derby was way over the top and indicative of a “bounce” coming. This was a sad but powerful example of bounce theory- he shattered both legs.
