Thanks for taking the time to make and post these videos. I'm going to an airline interview in a few days and your videos on TAF and METAR will prove to be extremely helpful during the technical phase.

Very clearly presented. I had an idea of how a TAF is decoded vs. a METAR, but not the best. This definitely helps distinguish the differences.

VV is indefinite because it only confirms the extent of known visibility, but due to the nature of poor visibility you cannot give an estimate to the actual cloud base. Although the cloud ceiling is actually the lowest of BKN or OVC the height is definite and will be reported after the abbreviations BKN/OVC. EG BKN1200. A cloud base is the lowest of SCT/FEW or the lowest height at which there is any cloud, which in some cases may also be the ceiling.

Thank you, I finally managed to get all the gremlins out the system and get everything working on my 4th upload :) Yes I hope to be adding more videos like this. I already have a three part video on VORs (theory & in flight practical) that's being editing at the moment.

Thank you GoPro Flying, you made my ground school meteorogy sections much more easier. Over ground school meteorogy, weather reports are the base for flying decision making. But there are not that many videos that explains it detail like your videos. I would like to see other weather reports like GFA and Notams as PIREP so pilots that have not been flying can come to refresh with your videos all in one place.. Again thank you and keep up excellent work.

I've been studying for my SUAS license from the FAA and these 2 lessons on the METAR's and TAF's are the best I have found! I'll probably need to watch them quite a few times but you really do a great job! Thank you!!

This question comes from GLEIM ATP BOOK: The VV001 in the following METAR indicates 100-foot indefinite ceiling: METAR KFSM 131756Z AUTO 00000KT M1/4SM R25/0600V1000FT -RA FG VV001 A2989 RMK AO2 VIS 3/4 RWY19 CHINO 19 $ My question is: why is VV001 spoken as an indefinite ceiling whereas ceiling is only reported as BKN or OVC ?
@Goproflying
@Goproflying 12 жыл бұрын
Taken from another website: 'In conditions of fog when the cloud cover cannot be seen then the vertical visibility will be reported using VV as the code. e.g. VV003 = vertical visibility 300 feet. If the fog is so bad that no measurement can be taken then you may possibly see VV///"

Good presentation. Two questions , 1: Vertical cloud location, is it based on QFE or on QNH? 2. Would you do a video on how to read NOTAMS with the same level of detail? Thank you very much for your videos.
@Goproflying
@Goproflying 10 жыл бұрын
Vertical cloud height is always measured from the ground (AGL) so yes it's a QFE reading. Notams aren't my speciality, but I'll see what I can find out.

why douse BKN009 mean broken clouds at 900 meters and BKN1200 means broken clouds at 1,200 meters? someone please help.
@Goproflying
@Goproflying 10 жыл бұрын
Visibility is measure in metres, cloud base is measured in feet. 1,200ft base should be written as BKN012, not BKN1200
