a dying skill these days it seems as most carriers have navigo, etc... still an important thing to know in my opinion and going over the final few miles in your head, including the exits, streets, etc. can save many problems. Keep up the selfless and info rich videos Junior, newbies can learn so much from you via youtube, I have been around forever it seems and really enjoy and appreciate what you do.

I learned how to read a map when I was 7. I don't trust technology. What if a solar storm hits and all electronics get glitchy and your GPS is thrown off? I'll grab my Truck Atlas and continue to my pick/drop. Not sure what others my age (23) are gonna do.

@@MrDaddieD Your truck is full of technology unless you are in an antique. Automatic slack adjusters, sensors and abs power steering the list goes on and on. Not to mention even an antique truck IS technology in itself. You aren't the only 20 something that can read a map dude lol, you aren't special

@@zachz699 I know. It's not that difficult to learn even if someone doesn't know how. It's a simple skill to learn within a week. Even if his technology did go all "glitchy" he would still have his phone. It's just good to know the basics.

There may be better video's out there for teaching beginners how to use a trucker atlas, & if there are I haven't run across them yet. This one is VERY good & teaches the majority of what most drivers need to get by with. I have sent this to numerous drivers that needed help & they appreciate it very much. Keep up the good work, especially WITHOUT all the bull music you find on some. Very good job. 40+ yr veteran otr Hopefully you'll do one that teaches the info in the front of the atlas, low bridges, restricted roads & such & how to locate them on the map. Reading & Using a map is a dying art at the very least.

would also like to add, if you miss a turn or exit, don't panic...even if it is uncomfortable. Go to the next exit, 3 lefts make a right, etc...think logically and develop common sense if needed, trust your gut, if it doesn't feel or look right, it probably isn't.

Junior, a 3 digit interstate starting with an even number (2, 4, 6 or 8) is a spur interstate through or around a city but an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) is a drop off that does not connect to the parent interstate at both ends.

Hey Qvo Junior, oye vato I'm gonna be honest and say I love your channel. You have top quality content, and material for many newbies. When I started driving trucks back in the mid 2000s, there wasn't smart phones with GPS, there wasn't tablets with GPS. I had to learn to use maps, I did mostly local so I was okay. I would miss the exits here and there when I went out of state a few times. Man I wish I would have had you as a trainer, you seem to teach your students so much valuable info. My question is did you have a good trainer to teach you all tricks of the trade, or did you have learn all these skills on your own time?
@JuniorHonduras

I really appreciate it and thanks for watching the videos. I would also like to thank you for your support. Yes I had a good trainer myself and he taught me a lot of things. I STILL TO DATE USE those methods and its what I teach my students. I have fine tuned (tweaked) those methods and implemented some of my own. I love to teach those who want to be taught. I am strict but that is because this is no JOKE. I like everyone else wants to go home and see their families. Thank you again and be safe out there 🇭🇳👍🏽😎👍🏽🇭🇳

GOOD MORN😎...REGARDING USING STRICTLY AN ATLAS AND NO GPS...AN ATLAS SEEMS OK FOR GETTING CLOSE TO A SHIPPER/RECEIVER BUT HOW DOES A STUDENT OR EVEN AN EXPIERENCED DRIVER DEAL WITH THE LAST SEVERAL MILES ONCE OFF INTERSTATE ?? FOR EXAMPLE IF THE LAST 10 MILES INVOLVES SEVERAL TURNS , WOUT GPS TELLING THE DRIVER DISTANCE BETWEEN TURNS...(I DON'T KNOW OF AN ATLAS THAT BREAKS DOWN THESE ROADS W SUCH DETAIL )..HOW CAN WE AVOID MISSING TURNS ALSO MISSING LOW BRIDGES...? ANOTHER EXAMPLE IS YOUR GOING DOWN A STREET WHICH IS 3 MILES LONG BEFORE THE NEXT TURN BUT THERE ARE 13 STREETS IN BETWEEN..THAT IS NERVE CRACKING TO LOK AT EVERY STREET HOPING YOU DON'T MISS..WHAT DO YOU DO WITH STUDENTS IN THESE SCENARIOS ? ASIDE FROM GETTING INTERSTATE --EXIT-- TO DOOR DIRECTIONS FROM RECEIVING DEPARTMENT ,, WHICH STILL LEAVES THE CHALLENGE OF GAUGING DISTANCE IN TERMS OF ANTICIPATING NEXT TURN ,,I'M NOT AWARE OF AN ATLAS SPECIFIC/DETAILED ENOUGH TO HELP WITH EVERY MILE. THANKS JR. ENJOY YOUR DAY🍮
