This lesson is fantastic, as are all of Lara’s. I was really struggling to understand how to read tablature and do any fingerstyle playing. I just could not make sense of it and no amount of research or people trying to explain it “cleared the fog” for me to grasp it. Until I found Lara. Lara has a way of breaking her lessons down so they are easy to understand and most often presents several ways to play any one song so you can choose what you like the sound of and work on it, or advance your way up as you like. If you want to learn to play the ukulele and have fun with engaging, easy to follow lessons that will ensure your success, this is the course for you. I am so happy I signed up for her course on her Patreon page. For the record, I had never played a stringed instrument before and had minimum (rusty) musical theory. I advance each day and challenge myself with this course at my own pace.

Excellent and concise teaching style! Well spoken! I could have used this a few years back and will recommend to others. BTW .... do you tab out any of your originals... such as Winter Solstice, etc.? Thanks Lara, love all your posts!

Thanks so much Lindy! I appreciate you sharing this with others. I haven't created tabs for my originals. I might take the time to do it someday and it's good to know that there's interest. Thanks for asking!

Hi Lara, as always another great tutorial! Thanks so much. I have a question (probably a stupid question), what is the line with the musical notes above the tablature?? I do recognize the patterns appear to be similar but are we supposed to pay any attention to that? Do Ukulele players use the notes? Lastly, I’ve been working in the Ukulele Aerobics book that you recommended, very good and challenging… Thanks Lara!

Hi Jerry, I'm so glad that you're enjoying the book! Above the tablature is the traditional form of staff music notation. Some uke players know how to read sheet music, and if a piece is unfamiliar then this notation can be helpful because it shows you the duration of the notes (for example whole notes, quarter notes, etc). It's not essential to learn it though - you can stick with reading the tabs. Thanks for the question!

Umm I got a question for the chords do I have to press down my finger on the string?
@LaraMarkowitzMusic

Hi, yes, you'll press your fingers down on the strings playing the frets according to the chord diagrams. Here's my lesson on left hand tips that you may find helpful :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXupqmahfcijf5Y

Why is the tablature seeming to be upside down? The A string is on the bottom of the fingerboard yet on the top of the tablature. Its confusing.

Great question! Look at the tabs as if you're looking down at your uke while playing it and then it lines up. It seems confusing at first but makes sense after you get used to it 😉
