I worked armed security in public. You are exactly right. Each post had a certain, rhythm, pattern, vibe, feel, smell, sound and visual. I looked for things, cars, people were out of place. Now that I'm retired, I still practice this. BTW, tip of the day: When you are out in a dark area with a flashlight, start at floor level. People who hide, usually duck down, crouch, prone...start your flashlight search at floor level (1) You will see obstacles on the floor that may trip or hurt you (2) you will see people hiding by laying flat on the floor, and if they are not low on the floor, you will see their shoes and legs first.

I have listened to my instincts before. I was a bit drunk and partying in Juarez and I was tempted to go down a dark alley that had very few people around to get to another bar but, decided to head to a different bar and with more people around. Not sure if anything would have happened but, decided against it.

A wise move indeed. Always act on your instinct when in a situation like this.

Times when I didn't ignore it. I would see a dirty car, carelessly backed into a parking space. I would look through the car window. The backs of the bucket seats were broken backwards, the interior was dirty with trash on the floor. I would call in the license plates to police dispatch advising I might have a stolen car. I would see a car parked away from other vehicles. I would check it, and more than likely find a couple en flagrante engaging in phsyical exercises.

Im 56 male kiwi . 1981 age 14 i loved riding my bicycle (pre bmx days , we made our own bikes styled like scramblers) went to the local park to carve up the hills and do jumps n have some fun . As i approached i had an odd feeling , somthing wernt right and a group of kids 15 or so were there . Thats when i should have turned around and not carried on in . Anyways ... im riding around doing some stunts and it started... çouple of em started saying "your that guy who stole my brothers bike" and the groupe formed around me . Next it was "say your a wanker" (strange but true) then i felt my arms being held by two guys behind me . Then it was "youve got till i count to 30 to say it" "one two three" The two interrogators (a solid built guy my age and a larger , dark skinned hardass maybe 15 yrs) both punched my face with three massive blows . I still remember the look of the white ones fists ! Im on hunched over on the ground in shock it seemed like pints of blood were flowing all over my front from my freshly broken nose. And ill never forget the elderly coulpe who walked up very close and the woman said "dont hit him while he's bleeding" (Good one granny) One of the arm holders guys then removed all the air from both my tires i was allowed to leave my beloved park on that bright sunny Sunday afternoon , pushing my bike slowly and in a daze. Lesson learned. Never ignore your instinct. Ive guided many teens n young alults to identify instinct when allerts you of danger . Many times my instinct has allerted/saved me from serious work accidents , car vs train near miss and once during a 2day race meeting on a 600cc screamer. Rain had set in for the day ...then for some reason i had a strong feeling that i should not race on my freshly prepared 'wet bike' ... instead transfer its wheels n wet tyres" onto the bike im more at home with. It still feel wierd now ... because (you guessed it!) When i put the wet bike up on the race stands to remove the wheels i needed...THE LEFT (Alloy clipon) HANDLEBAR SNAPPED LIKE A CARROT , CLEAN OFF IN MY HAND. (previous owner had weleded to save $120nz) . I like your channel and agree with your message = trust/act on instinct . Good man. Cheers

I had an almost EXACT experience, oddly enough on my home styled BMX bike, in a local sand pit. A gang of teenagers got me cornered and gave me a beat down, with humiliation tactics and beating. Both tires cut on the bike. I never went back to that place, and never went against that weird gut feeling again.

🤔🙋... Thanks for giving examples of some situations we might encounter and emphasizing that it is important to be aware. I have noticed that either someone is able to objectively study people they encounter or out of fear choose to imagine that there is never anything to evaluate that might make them afraid .. because they assume it's a bad thing to be afraid .. instead of realizing that noticing potential trouble is not about fear .. but about using wisdom that can keep a person safe. Maybe they pick up this "see no evil" bravado from movies .. but in real life it is wise to take care and evaluate the environment around us.
@SilverSurvival
@SilverSurvival 3 күн бұрын
Exactly! This isn’t about being afraid. It’s about not having to be afraid, because a person acted wisely. And yes, our brain tries to incorporate off-baseline anomalies into the baseline…because it WANTS to make everything normal.

@@amy3458 I know you probably won't like this, but I have noticed that there is a tendency among Christians to downplay dangerous situations and treat them as they don't exist. Stories like the Good Samaritan are held up as examples of how we should behave. What Jesus never mentioned is that there are people, like the infamous Ted Bundy, who would fake being in distress in order to lure his victims where he wanted them to be. We are told to be sympathetic to the homeless and the mentally ill, that they are not at all dangerous but people down on their luck. In my opinion, Christianity encourages people to drop their guard and to silence that voice within that says something's not right here. Recently I heard a sermon where the pastor told a story about a rich guy who had a fine horse that some other guy wanted to buy off him, and when the guy who owned the horse said no, the other guy disguised himself as a traveler in need. When the rich guy came along on his horse and stopped to help, the other guy leapt up and stole the horse. The rich guy's response, "Don't tell anyone how you got that horse, I wouldn't want people to stop helping others in need." Uh, maybe he SHOULD warn others so that it won't happen to them. But no, don't tell anyone . . . let them learn the hard way . . .

i had a similar experience when I was a kid. i was at a park and was playing on the jungle Jim and saw this kid who looked very geekish and I decided to spit on him (he was below me) He chased me I ran as fast as I could but and when he caught me he whaled on my face I was so shocked I couldn't even fight back. I never forgot that lesson about not judging a book by its cover.

Interesting. My first assessment of the presenter is his appearance. Unshaven. Necklace. Worn clothing trying to blend in with the wilderness. Odd looking glasses. Worn hat. Here's one tip KZbinrs need to understand if they want their messages to make an impact. Clean yourself up. Don't wear your hat backwards. Shave. Appearance is important and being human, it is the first thing we notice about them. Behavior comes second. Even then, people can fool you. Listen to your gut. Be aware of your surroundings. Nothing good happens after midnight as so on. Teach your children well about human behavior especially in relationships or observations. This is how I escaped from being hunted down and killed by a serial killer in Alaska. Know how to talk yourself out of a bad situation or avoidance in the first place. Learn self protection/defense. Never relax in a crowd or by yourself. The world is not a safe place as you've been taught.

Thanks for watching. Thanks for the advice. But my shirt and hat are brand new. The hat is made that way. :). Behavior is what we should be profiling, because it’s a better indication of intent.

Yes, my boss is a danger to me, a “friend” was a danger to me, and I’ve had neighbors, who were a danger to me. A person’s first thought, is that I’m simply paranoid and think everyone’s out to get me. I mean, just look at them. They look nice. They’re not even thinking about me, let alone having poor intent towards me. Nope. I’ve seen their actions, which pointed towards their intent. These are slow, insidious predators, that look very lollipop. And, a parent? C’mon. They may have not put me in a full nelson, but if I didn’t have a keen eye and solid boundaries, I wouldn’t be writing this comment.
@SilverSurvival
@SilverSurvival 2 күн бұрын
It’s not paranoia, for sure. Actions and behaviors tell the tale, and if those actions and behaviors deviate from “normal”, it’s not up to the observer to explain it away. It’s up to the observed. And if they don’t explain it (without being asked) , be cautious!
