Actually, a clarification: a hammer-on and pull-off are indicated by an arcing line over the notes to be used. A hammer-on shows the low note and then the high note with the arcing line while a pull-off shows the low note followed by the high note. Tapping has notes tapped with the line overall notes in order of tapping (Flash of the Blade by Iron Maiden (NOT AC/DC's Thunderstruck no matter what you were told)) If you are learning by online tablature, the H/P is used due to the inability to do the arc used in print. Keep that in mind: the online tab has differences in print (the H/P in print takes too much room and squishes things together too much). Beds are shown by a forward and backward slash in print depending on if it is a bend or a pre-bend, not a B (this can be done online, somewhat). The bend is the slide symbol up/down or down/up. Muting should be shown the same way as in print: a simple X just as done at the nut for muted notes in chords. Again, the original tab, used in print, is easier and more efficient, I think, to indicate and read.

Excellent video, love the clarity and how it gets to the point, no unnecessary chit-chat anywhere. I'm experienced with regular notation but needed to become aware of the various playing techniques, and to start writing for guitarists. From now on, I'll have tabs accompanying the regular notation so they actually explain how a given piece is meant to be performed, technically.

Why in the tablature appears 0 even if the finger does not have a contact with the cord? for example in the video min 4:59 ( why the D cord (0232 ) is not written as 232 only or the E major min 4:30 ( 022100) is not written as 221 only ?

I get so confused because the graph is upside down, or opposite to the fret board. I have to constantly remind myself that we are to reverse it in our minds. Just the words High E string, make you think it would be the top string, meaning the one closest to the ceiling or sky. Am I the only one who has this issue? Thanks for this lesson, You do make things easy to understand!

+neeraj chhikara The"new" youtube comment system is absolute garbage. Look at the original ("top level") post. Underneath the text, you have the "reply" button, and the buttons for "like" and "dislike" all next to each other. Look just below that, and you will see blue letters that say "View all 6 replies" (or whatever the actual number is.) Click on this, and you will see the entire response chain. (Click "Read More," below, to view the rest of this comment.) Also worth noting-- you can write very long comments on youtube, but the site will automatically hide anything that is beyond a certain length. In which case, there will be an option to view the rest of the comment near the bottom of the text. That would be the "Read More" which you just clicked on, to view this very sentence.

I've been playing guitar for years now and I still get it confused. It doesn't happen as much anymore but when starting our I was just as confused as you were. It's just natural to play it that way. I actually leaned a scale went to my teacher and he said that I played it upside down. Just give it time, it does get easier

Love Rhesus 2 Pcs, no you're not the only one who gets confused with the writing. I am reading it just like you, that is, when looking down at your guitar, the first string you see is the THICKEST ("E") string, NOT the thinnest / first string. I know that you are referring to the POSITION of the strings, NOT their tone. So, I concur with you. It's upside down. Logic would have it written (since it's suppose to be a diagram, a chart, whatever the hell you want to call this written graph) by the ACTUAL LOCATION of the strings, NOT their sound! We're LOOKING at a chart (scale, whatever), NOT listening to it!

I don't know anything about the different chord types yet, but did want some clarity on reading tabs in general and this helped a lot. Technically I'm wanting to learn bass but this still helps me understand how to read the arrangements of numbers. One thing I'm curious about is what the large amounts of space in front of or behind the tabs signify. I'm guessing they're like moments to pause and then continue with a different phrase. I've seen a tab like this that kind of threw me off A------7-7777-7777-77777-5-3... I figured the 7s that are right next to each other mean that fret is played four times, four times again...but then what're the gaps for?
