Dear Doc , thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've spent over 4 years now in horrendous pain from a bad fall . The local charity hospital LSU, would not even help me to get in the ER with a wheel chair or stretcher , when someone gave me a wheelchair to get in the ER they then told me they would decide what I would be treated for and today they would look at my heart. No matter what I stressed to them and the apparently intense pain I was in. I had to go to many urgent cares and regular ER's only to be denied any acknowledgement of my injury. I would Never wish this pain on anyone. I've never known pain this bad. Well now I'm twisted over and bent down and unable to stand or walk , I've lost all movement in left foot and leg up to my knees. My right foot has more movement. They are completely numb all the way up the back of my legs to my butt just below my waist. It is mean to be treated so inhumanly with an injury that I believed was fixable in the beginning . One hospital ER caused me injury I feel was deliberately done. I've been in such bad pain for so long that the only way I slept was at moments I collapsed. When my son saw this he rushed me to a ER , they took me back for MRI on my brain. My son and I explained because how twisted and fixed I am , I can't lay flat and it will start muscle spasm . They said they will get me flat and I knew they can't. Well , the pain was so intense with spasm also that it through me into seizures and they then put me in the hospital by this time unconscious for a day and a half. I'm now on seizure medicine for ever I guess. I still have no memory after getting into the ER, after that I lost all that time almost 2 days. They said when the seizures started while on the table of the MRI I emptied my bodily functions everywhere. I don't have any memory. The first year after the fall , one urgent care facility doctor kindly gave me a attorneys name to go see because I had been injured where I rent plus hospitals denying treatment. Well I did that and had my consultation only to get a phone call that night and a violent visit the next day from the landlord. My son and I was trying to leave to go back to er because of the pain and extremely high blood pressure 210/114 I may be off a number , it's a matter of record , it was horrible. I haven't attempted anymore attorneys due to such threats . I don't have no money to move and can not work . My son is trying everything he can to help. I finally got a doctor to do a MRI and found 2 fractured vertebrae at the L5 and L3 and in different directions. It is complete compromised the spinal cord from at least the L1---S1 with S curve of my spine. They are going to do decompression of the whole lumber section and maybe rods and screws, he won't really know until he gets in the spine. I'm pretty afraid of this surgery and if I have the strength to recover . My doctor now wants a MRI of my thoracic spine before surgery . A reply or suggestion would be appreciated .

My daughter just turned 5yrs old and tends to easily agrivate her left side of her neck. She is very active with sports for her age. (Lavator scap, scm, splenius capitus, scalenes, traps.) It all started last year when she fell on her head trying to do a cartwheel after she was told not to. We had X-rays done at P-1st and they found no fractures. Of course they dont look at the curve. Its never been as bad as the 1st time, but today in swim team practice as all the kids are in her group are, a much older girl elbowed my daughter in the nose while practicing her stroke, out of the pool. It knocked her head back and she was holding her nose and neck at the same time. I iced it and when we got home I used CBD oil with massage and a lil Graston. Her pain went down but her range of motion is only at 15deg to the left and full range to the right. I found the X-ray CD to look at it. C1 and C2 are in Kyphosis. C7 is at the same angel as C2 like the curve is starting over. I'll have her see a local Chiro since none of my soft tissue work is compleatly working, but can she use the traction techniques with a tight towel around the back of her neck?

Thank you doctor. I’m so confused about what’s happening. My Neaurosurgeon installed a titanium plate from C3-C7. In 2015. My neck hurts worse now than ever. It was installed at a sever angle which I don’t think helped anything. I’m in constant pain and have been since the day of the surgery. I think I have a better understanding of my cervical spine now since watching this video. I appreciate the time you took to educate me. Very respectfully, Gia Bower

Thank you! After a few years of migraines and neck pain I finally sought help which started with a cervical X-ray. Yikes! My frontal bones aren’t squared but look like lobster claws, a couple are broken off at the tips. I had 5 images taken and can’t understand anything. This video really helped me. I have neurological testing being done this Tuesday. Fingers crossed I’ll get better real soon. 😊

Thanks Dr Mandell. This is really helpful to me. My interest to be able to read my own x-rays is sadly not matched by my chiropractors interest in me. I particularly like your use of the mouse to help explain in detail. Great presentation!

Dr Mandell !!! Fantastic factual video of the information you gain from a neck X ray. I have been in the medical field for 40 years and this information is critical to patients to help them understand what the doctor is telling them. An educated patient is the best patient ! Please expand your video to the impact the compression is having on the nerves and what symtoms are caused from each. example C3--C4 etc Please go into more depth about each. Patients come to their doctor for SPECIFIC symtom areas and they more in depth they understand this the better informed and more likely they are to take action to help themselves.

Love this video, thank you for explaining this. I have a straight neck which is causing a slight scoliosis curve in my back (because of the forward neck issue (caused by looking my cell phone or computer all day with bad posture) at which is causing the pain in my lower lumbar spine which has a disc bulge / annular tear at L5-S1. I am planning to work with him to correct the straight neck to correct the curve and also, this will help with the balance in my hips once we get through the corrective stages ( i carry two different weights in my legs when i step on 2 different scales, it's not equal) . I pray this will help me in the future.

Dr. Mandell, would be nice if you used a larger curse mark or dot. And explain which side of the neck were looking at, that is, the front , back, L or R side. I couldn't tell if the curve was curving to the front or the back of the neck. Pics didn't show which is the face or back of the head. Enjoy your site.

Hey Dr Mandell! Love your videos! Question on the bone spurs on front of vertebrae that you point out around the 4:30 mark. You make a comment that the spurs in the front are “good”, but it’s when you start getting these spurs on the backside is where it becomes more of a problem. My chiro told me the spurs in front were bad, if I recall correctly. Was wondering what makes it good to have these spurs in front side of neck...? Thanks!

Hi Ham, pointing out specifics what doctors rarely ever show their patients X-Rays taken pertaining to DJD, osteopenia, or other anatomical landmarks that are important pertaining to their patients diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment protocol. People pay lots of their hard working dollars to see doctors and many are getting short-changed.

+motivationaldoc So, referring to that, imagine doctors start telling all of those important infowhatsoever, general public understanding has to adapt to that and if a doctor could do that without spreading fear to his patient, what do you suggest they start saying to their patients. i am going to give a dialogue between you and I. you are the doctor me the patient. I start. please doctor can you tell me why i have pain in the neck with cervical vertigo as symptoms? Waiting your response doc!

I was wondering if a military neck (which I have) will affect the chest? I have daily chest pain which is not reflux, lung or cardio related and I also have up to moderate back conditions. No extreme pain, but is daily and is aggravated with exercise or working and it also affects my breathing. I saw a cardio which target the nerve vagus but pain got worse with time. It has been going on for 2+ years. God bless you motivationaldoc. -)
